Orcs were greedy, not stupid - they'd sensed something was off. The NCOs of every battle zone over level 40 were all losing ranks. This was beyond what an average NCO could handle. Orcs were inherently selfish - if the gains didn't outweigh the costs, they wouldn't continue.
