Chapter Five

And true to Alora's words, Zayen got better before the end of the day and it was just like he never fell sick at all.

"Are you sure she isn't a witch?" Aero asked the other Lords as they say down in Ruger's study.

"No witch would be a fool to use her powers just like that in the part of the world filled with humans because according to my report, all the illness had by the peasants, she helped them heal." Dean rested his back and closed his eyes.

"If other kingdoms get to know about this, they would want her for themselves thinking she is a witch and can cast spells to protect their kingdoms from the werewolves." Diego rubbed his chin with a frown on his face.

"And are you sure she isn't a witch Dean?" Aero asked again but only got a deadly glare from Dean.

"If she was a witch mistakenly born… or wait just born to the human world, the witches would have actually taken her right from birth." Dean stood up and walked to the nearest bookshelf and removed a book from it before returning to his seat. "Right now if you want to save the innocent girl, maybe your long buried thoughts would be of use right now."

"What is that?" Ruger asked.

"Did you forget you wanted to adopt her back then when she was eight?" Dean rolled his eyes as he opened the book to start reading.

"Oh that is going to be a nice idea. You never had a daughter so it would be nice to have her now don't you think." Aero nudged Ruger who pushed him aside and sat at his desk givinywhat Dean just said a thought. It would be a token of appreciation because the girl refused any reward and also he had wanted to adopt her back then when she was a young, but never had the chance to.

"Send for her mother Diego." Ruger rested his back on his chair and Diego rolled his eyes.

"Aero commands the guards, not me." Diego pressed the bell and two guards walked in with their heads bowed.

"Send for Arielle on the farm." Dean ordered with his gaze not leaving the book he was reading.

"Yes my Lord." The guard saluted and walked out of the study.

"Wait, what if her mother doesn't agree?" Aero frowned.

"You'll just have to reason with her. Who would rather want her daughter to die than leave her to be the Lord's child?" Dean hissed, still not reading his gaze off the book.

"I appreciate the fact that you're not in Ruger's position because we would all have been dead by now." Aero sighed and Diego snorted.

The knock on the door distracted them and immediately, the guards walked in with Arielle who was still dressed in her farm clothes that was soiled with dirt.

"My Lords." She fell on her knees as she got to the stairs elevating the place where Ruger's study table and chairs were.

"Please stand up Arielle and have your seat." Ruger said calmly and Arielle looked at him in disbelief.

"My Lord….my clothes…."

"No need to worry. Just sit down." Ruger smiled and Arielle nodded before walking up the stairs to sit.

Two maids walked in with trays of snacks and served Arielle and the Lords before leaving the room. Arielle didn't touch the tea and biscuits before her and jut looked at Ruger with her palms sweaty.

"No need to be nervous." Ruger dropped his teacup gently and looked up at her. "I sent for you to talk about something with you."

"Yes my Lord?" She asked.

"I want to adopt Alora." Ruger got to the main point immediately, shocking Arielle.

"My…my Lord. Alora is my only child and daughter…."

"You don't have to worry. I understand your fears, you would still be her birth mother but the only reason I wasn't to adopt her is so that she could be protected." Ruger picked his teacup again and sipped the tea before. "You know pretty well about humans' war with werewolves and luckily for years now, our kingdom has been safe and standing. If other kingdoms get to know about this blessing of your daughter, they would want to abduct her, thinking she is a witch that can cast spells to help protect their kingdoms. If she is a child in the royal palace, no one would dare touch her unless they want war, which everyone is trying as much as possible to avoid right now."

"But my Lord, why did you decide to be the one to adopt her? I know pretty well that my daughter isn't a witch. I asked for her from the goddesses myself so that is why she was blessed with different gifts." Arielle asked him directly, this time not like a scared servant but like she was on the same level as he was which surprised them all but they hid it.

"Your daughter refused my reward after she healed my son so the least I could do for her is to keep her safe because I would do that to anyone. Thank goodness you know pretty well." Ruger dropped his empty teacup and looked at her with a serious expression. "What do you say Arielle?"
