The world has fallen and so did humanity. In the new era after the apocalypse, Marcus Zephanie was hailed to be the leader. Because of him, one-fourth of the human race was saved. Time. I needed time. And right now, still held by Rafael, I could see that the time had frozen. Literally.
I don't think that he was aware of this, but everything around us was at a standstill. Ronald Evans stood unmoving behind him, his eyes still staring at the spot where Marcus Zephanie's hologram had appeared a few minutes ago, like everyone else.
The scene around us was like a picture. No one and nothing was moving. I held onto Rafael for a bit more. I was searing into my memory his scent and everything about him.
I knew that my decision was too sudden. I honestly was not planning to do it. However, something about the last bit of what Marcus Zephanie had said gave me some sort of hope. It gave me an idea on how to free myself from his grasp and maybe finally free myself of his secrets.
