Chapter I Pt. I

It was in the dead of night, and the street was pitch black without the presence of street lights. Each side of the road was lined with thick woods that stretched for miles. The moon hung high in the sky, and its lunar light shined through the windshield of an all-black SUV.

"Why are we here? We could be anywhere in the world. But you choose to come to California and not even the good part." Tenko complained in Japanese to his parents.

The teenage boy had light brown skin and platinum white hair styled in a high fade with a long pulled back quiff. A lock of hair hung down his face over his left eye as it refused to stay in place.

His stepfather side-eyed his mother then looked up into the rearview mirror. "English son... And no, we can't go anywhere. I need a job to provide. Your mother doesn't want to work in the city anymore and you, Tenko. Do you want me to start?"

Tenko rolled his eyes and looked out of the window into the night. He wasn't his dad's biggest fan, but his dad was always there. Taking care of him and his mother. Unlike Tenko and his mother, his stepfather was born and raised in America. His birth father died at the hands of the Yakuza when he was eight. All he had left behind were two Ninjatos, an Inari Scroll, and a house in Virginia. That house is the reason Tenko and his mother came to America. To start over.

Eventually, his mother met Mark, his stepfather, and they fell in love with all the fireworks and white doves that came along with it. And like Tenko and his biological father, his stepfather, Mark, is half black and Japanese. It made things easier for Tenko. To have someone to relate to. Growing up in Japan was hard being biracial. But, Mark taught him there was nothing to be ashamed of.

"I'm sorry. But you have to understand why I did it, dad. We butt heads all of the time, but when the serious shit happens, you're always there for me. Just tell me you understand." Tenko spoke in a mellow tone.

Mark sighed when he saw his wife nod to him. "I do understand. And I don't blame you for my termination. But you have to keep your head down, son. I can't lose you or your mother. What you did, put you in the spotlight. So now we're going off the map. To this backwater town."

In truth, Mark didn't want to be in the small town any more than his son did. But sometimes, you have to do what's best for the people you care about.

Tenko put on a half-smile, and the car ride went on in relative silence. The silence was soon shattered by a tree shaking howl. Tenko's mother's eyes shined gold, and Tenko's eyes shined crimson red with fox slits.

"Stop!" Tenko shouted, causing his dad to smash on the breaks. A car behind them swerved into the next lane to avoid a wreck. The sound of screeching tires filled the night.

Tenko growled. "There's a fucking alpha here!"

"Tenko! it is fine. You need to calm down. What was the first thing I ever taught you?" She asked.

"Control. Suppressing my Aura." He replied.

"And what did I say?"

"You said I was a natural, like my father," he replied with a smile.

His mom turns around to look at him. "Keep the aura suppressed, keep yourself under control, and no one will know who we are. The alpha will not know who we are. You're a 'Top Dog' now, an Alpha, and you earned it. Now act like one." She said.

His mother sat back in her seat and looked over at her husband. "Drive," she told him.

Tenko let his mother's words sink in for the rest of the ride. He didn't want to be an alpha. It was a power that he stole from the Alpha werewolf that he killed. A power that was not easily taken by people of his kind.

The Alarm clock in Tenko's room went off and was immediately slapped silent by Tenko. He and his family had got in late last night, so he stayed up to get his room together. It took a long while to get his boxes unpacked, and his room arranged how he liked. But, by the time he had finished, it was already a few hours before school and already time for his morning workout.

Tenko was quietly meditating on his bed. He was at the tail end of his workout when he was disturbed by the alarm clock. He figures that he could regain his inner peace until his ear twitched, and he opened his eyes to see his mother standing at his bedroom door.

"Your father is already gone, and we are going to be late for school. Get ready now." She told him.

Sometime later, Tenko and his mother arrived in the school parking lot. The bell had just rung to signal the start of the school day. Tenko and his mother walked into the school when he felt a packet being slapped into his gut.

"Why?" he asked

"Your father wants you in a sport. I told him it was too much, but he insisted. So, pick a sport, text me, and I will see you at practice after school." She smiled and kissed him on the forehead. "I love you, son. And have a great day."

His mother walked off towards her class, and the sound of her heels clattered against the tile floors as the sound faded into the distance.

"Mr. Tenko Naka...Shige? Did I pronounce that right?"

"Close enough. You have my class schedule?" Tenko asked

The teacher hands him a sheet of paper with all of his classes. Tenko looks it over and stops the teacher from walking away.

"Excuse me. But these are wrong. Everything is Advanced Placement..." He said.

The man raised an eyebrow. "Most students would kill for a schedule like that. Be grateful and get to class." He replies before leaving the building to meet a young woman that seemed more lost than he was.

Tenko shrugged his shoulder and went to find his first class, Latin. Up to the second floor and at the end of the hall, he found classroom 217. Opening the door, Tenko walks in to see all eyes are on him. He soon found the teacher in the middle of the room and handed her his class schedule.

"Tenko Nakashige. You're my first class of the day," he said.

"Ahh. You must be Mrs.Mason's son. Have a seat right there." The woman pointed to an empty chair behind a gorgeous girl with long wavy strawberry blonde hair.

Tenko looked the girl over a few times, and she studied him just as intensely. Looking at her papers as he walked by, a smirk crept onto his face, pleased by what he saw.

When Tenko took his seat, the girl took a deep breath and put on a welcoming smile that radiated confidence. She quickly turned around, and her hair glided in the air before finding its place draped over her shoulder.

"Tenko, right?" she asked.

Tenko nodded

"The name's Lydia. You look fit, do you play any sports? " She asked. Before Tenko could reply, Lydia spoke again. "Try-outs for Lacrosse are after school. I think you'd be amazing. Here." she hands him an envelope from her purse. "You're invited to my party this Friday. " she gave him a quick wink and refocused on class.

'Lydia... Hmm, this place might not be so bad.' Tenko thought.

Later that day, Tenko was walking through the hallways texting his mother.

Tenko: Cute girl invited me to play lacrosse. Sound good?

Mom: Perfect. I'll be there after I finish up. Oh, and take it easy, babe. No broken bones. Love you.

Tenko: Love you.

Tenko put his phone away and made his way into the locker room. Tenko looked around for a moment then spotted the coach's office to his left.

Knock Knock.

Tenko knocked on the door frame to get the coach's attention. The coach looked up and gave him a once over. "Ahh, new kid. What do you want?" The coach spoke loudly, full of energy.

"To play lacrosse," Tenko replied with a fox grin.

"Have you ever played?"

"Nope, but I like to win."

The coach smiled. "Me too, Kid. Me too." Coach spun around and grabbed some spare gear.

"Take it. Most of the players buy their own gear, but you can use this until you get your own. Suit up and get to the field. Danny!" Coach shouted. "Show him the ropes!"

Before long, Tenko and Danny were walking onto the practice field. Danny explained the basics of Lacrosse and gave him the rules of contact on the field. Tenko listened intently as Danny spoke. Danny was a pretty mellow guy. He had tanned Hawaiin skin and was on the taller side. Though, a bit shorter than Tenko.

"I think I got this." Tenko nodded.

Danny smirked as he nodded. "Yeah, you do... Good luck" Danny then jogged away to get warmed up.

"Holy shit," Tenko chuckled to himself. 'He is totally gay. ' Tenko thought before jogging after him to get warmed up as well. He stretched and loosened up his body.

Twirling the lacrosse stick, Tenko smiled ."Yeah, I got this"

"New Kid! Get in line and show me what you got!" Coach shouted. Tenko laughed and realized that the coach was going to be one hell of a personality to get to know.

"McCall!" Coached shouted again

"Yeah?" The boy replied, snapping himself out of a daze.

"You're in goal," he said while tossing the boy goalie gear.

McCall looked completely confused. He looked to the goal and back at the coach and said, "But, I've never played."

"I know," The coach replied a matter of factly, "Scoring some shots will give the boys a confidence boost. First day back kind of thing."

Tenko snickered and shook his head, "Shameless." he muttered as he listened to the conversation.

"What about me?" McCall asked, a bit downtrodden.

Coach looked at him with disgust, as if McCall was asking the most irrelevant question of the century. "Try not to take it in the face," he replied while giving McCall a soft slap to the face before walking off.

That was the last straw for Tenko. He couldn't help but laugh. The coach was a character. But, he did feel a bit bad for the McCall kid.

McCall soon found his spot in the goal, and the coach blew his whistle like a war horn. Tenko watched as Scott doubled over and pressed his hand against his helmet in an attempt to cover his ears. The smile on Tenko's face vanished. Tenko then began to sniff the air.

Many scents came to him, and he sifted through them as he waited for his turn. As he got closer to McCall, he picked up on a very light scent, and his eyes honed in on the boy in the goal, who was surprisingly catching every ball that went his way.

'There's no way..' he thought. The field suddenly became silent. Tenko turned his attention to the player in front of him, who looked incredibly serious. He was in the middle of a near sprint while cradling the ball before he took a big step and launched himself in the air. Mid-air, the player took his shoot but was stopped by McCall.

The stands went wild, and everyone cheered for McCall. Tenko walked up to the stunned player and tapped his shoulder.

"It's my turn," Tenko said, gesturing to the guy to get out of the way. Tenko pointed at McCall.

"Ball!" he shouted.

McCall looked and passed it to him. Tenko caught the ball and twirled the stick like he had been playing for years. Tenko walked to the front of the line, then broke out into a decent pace. Everyone watched closely as Tenko lept into the air performed one full spin before firing off the ball.

McCall widened in shock. It was the fastest ball he had seen all practice. McCall threw his stick up to intercept, but by the time he got in position, the sound of the ball hitting the goalie net was already reverberating.

The coach went ballistic. Tenko tiled his head as he looked at McCall. He seemed oblivious to what was happening. This made Tenko worry even more. Shaking his head Tenko walked over to the coach.

Coach grabbed Tenko by the pads and looked him straight in the eyes. " You made first-line!" he shouted, and the spectators clapped for him.

Tenko smiled and took a bow for everyone. To the far left, Tenko noticed his mom shaking her head with an amused smirk. He raised an eyebrow and gave her a 'You asked for it.' look. She then nodded and left the field.

Taking off his helmet, Tenko looked up at the Strawberry blonde on her feet. Lydia brushed the hair from her face as she and Tenko made eye contact. Lydia smirked, and Tenko could see the subtle hunger in her eyes. He lightly bit his bottom lip and took her beauty in for a moment before getting back to practice.

"And who is he?" her friend asked.

Tenko listened in as he walked away.

Lydia watched Tenko's back and gave Allison a one-word answer. "Trouble"

Allison looked confused and then looked towards the field at Tenko.

On the field, Tenko could smell rage and jealousy. Following the scent. Tenko turned to see the team captain staring at him. Tenko smiled and waved.

After Practice. Tenko left the locker room and got ready to head to the department of motor Vehicles when a raven-haired girl stopped him.

Behind her were two of her friends giggling as they watched the raven-haired girl shoot her shot.

"Hey. You're Tenko, right? Mrs. Mason's son?"

"How'd you know?" he asked sarcastically.

"Well, she couldn't stop talking about her smart and sexy son all day today. I figure he had to be you." She flirted.

Tenko raised an eyebrow. "That actually soundly sounds like something she would say," he said.

The girl looked a bit shocked. "Really?" she snickered.

"Yeah, I mean, it's 100 percent true. So we can't fault her," he replied.

The girl bit down on her bottom lip as she smiled. "My friends and I are studying at my place. I will love it if you share some of that talent with us."

Tenko smiled. "What's your name?" he asked.

"Aria," she replied with no hesitation.

"Well, Aria. I'm really not in the mood to study. But, if you girls have anything else in mind, you let me know first." Tenko turned away, but Aria grabbed his arm.

"We're actually on the honor roll. You want to hang with us today?"

Tenko smirked. "I like honesty, Aria. And who wouldn't want to hangout with three beautiful ladies? Lead the way"
