Heon did not know how to swim – had learned it in elementary school, and almost drowned in the first practice. After that, he avoided every pool activity and shy away from the sea. Sadly, it was not the first time he drowned. Had known what would happen in the next few minutes.
First, there was the fear. The pressing down of his lungs that suddenly needed to breathe more than ever before. The confusion and disorientation of shattered light through water.
He couldn't see, couldn't breathe, couldn't know which way was up or down.
Then, there was the knowledge that he was about to die. The vision at the edges of his sight seemed to turn into black flecks, then pulses reddish white. His lungs burned and his chest felt like it was being compressed right in the centre by a giant fist, and pulled apart at the same time.
