In the midst of his investigations, he was following the data and the leads, as well as the witnesses he spoke to.
In 1997, prostitutes described to the police a man who used to roam the area, with the description matching Midway's appearance, when the officers then went to Midway's home and arrested him once more , in which he passed through one more polygraph test and agreed to provide hair and saliva samples, and was eventually released again for lack of evidence.
Confident, the killer continued claiming more victims, until, in 2001, his DNA was found on four bodies, and Midway was arrested for the murders, whereupon these new samples indicated positive DNA evidence in thirty-three more victims.
After being arrested, Midway agreed to cooperate with investigations to avoid being sentenced to death. For months, he was interviewed by detectives and provided details of every crime he committed.
