Thoughts Without Meaning

Jason stared at the cloud's in the evening sky.

The clan trial would begin in the next two days and he would have to participate, he was getting ready for all the snarky comments that would be thrown at him.

The chances of the children from the branch families and the ones from the main families laughing at him were at least a 100%.

It was normal for an adult to feel rage when he was being mocked by kids, especially he that had lived for 35 cumulative years from his past life to his new life.

The system restrained his emotion when he killed the rank 4 awakened, his heart had been still, even his crying had been him forcing himself.

Would that also apply to the stir of emotions he would feel when they tried picking on him?

Jason gazed at the formless clouds. Unlike people said, these clouds were formless only taking the shape of what one's imagination wanted to see.

Emily was asleep.

These days the girl was more talkative, she began to come out of her shell more. Emily was no longer the shy little girl, her skin was even getting fairer...

Something that Jason detested, somewhat.

But that meant that she had awakened, if only he knew how to check the rank she awakened he would already start preparing for the future.

To survive in this world one wouldn't need just an insurmountable amount of power, if then they wouldn't even be able to beat the Monster army; the monster army was one rumored to be infinite, humanity had been fighting against it for decades yet it never seemed to take a good hit from humanity.

On the other hand, humanity kept on taking hits like masochists.

If not for their high reproduction rate they would have already been at the last straw of their kinds existence.

This was because humans always went to hell. Monsters crawled their way out of hell, when they returned to the human world they would always be vengeful.

Without their former memories the carnage would repeat it again, and again, and again.

The world was sick that way.

And to top it all of the protagonist was beta!

Jason sighed.

'Truly, the fate of the world always depended on people who weren't part of the plot. People like me; irrelevants." Jason muttered to himself.

The wind blew in his ear as he thought to himself.

Despite the uncertainty of the kind of treatment he would receive in the trial ahead, his mind kept shifting back to his missing arm.

Things felt like they would easily fall out of place. His missing arm was like a missing chess piece and the clan trial was like the board.

He had originally planned to secure first place by utterly destroying the dungeon boss and getting ranked first in the trial. But with his right arm missing he would have to attack with his left.

Coupled with the fact that his only experience in fighting was his image training and a rank 4 awakened who was met unprepared by his power and ultimately died a horrible death due to fear.

The rank 4 would have lasted a lot longer if he was willing to take the initiative and have faith in his own strength. Instead he revealed his trump card at the beginning and didn't even think twice before running away.

He was taken off-guard by Jason.

But these clan kids weren't like the rank 4.

They would have at least rank 1 potential and would already be in rank 5.

Clark was unprepared and even if he couldn't complete the mission he would at least still have his life with him, the branch family children however fought for two things: Pride and Recognition.

If their family could get recognized by the clan their resources would increase substantially. And they weren't being paid for the work.

A 16 year old having rank 0 or rank 1 potential being bullied by a dark-skinned kid who shouldn't even be his match in a physical contest would be humiliating, they would rather die in that fight than come back alive.

Jason's thoughts swirled like the evening breeze, uncertain and restless. His gaze drifted to the horizon, this was where the sun's final rays stretched over the clan, his house cast a long shadow over him.

It was a scene he had seen several times, since there was no digital entertainment he had to entertain himself through this method.

"Is there any use, having these thoughts?" Jason asked himself.

No matter the amount of mockery they put before him, it was all up to them whether his reaction would be fatal to them.

If his true anger and frustration was truly unleashed he might just end up killing all the pests annoying him before the clan trial actually began.

Some unfortunate souls might actually end up on the sharp edge of his blade if they weren't careful.

"I suppose not." Jason shook his head in contempt.

There was a saying: What happens in a dungeon stays in a dungeon.

Whatever someone did in the dungeon would be known only to themselves and to themselves alone.

If someone of rank 3 wanted to enter a rank 4 dungeon the place would destabilize a little, trying to enter a rank 5 dungeon as a rank 3 would cause it to destabilize completely and would throw it into a random place.

It could be anywhere on earth; any part of the halves.

Any unfortunate enough to spawn in the demon half of the world would be viciously hunted.

Throughout history there was only a single record of a single group of rank 0's making it out of the demonic half of the world and returning to the part where humans reigned after a dungeon destabilization.

According to what Jason understood from the rules in the clan tournament, the place they got in the competition depended on the strength of the species of the corpse they brought back.

Assuming you brought back the dungeon boss' corpse you would instantly get 1st place.

But that was almost impossible.

Jason let out a deep breath.

He had been practicing breathing, and it had been a piece of cake.

It was as simple as it was made out to be; breathing. It was something a baby could do without being taught even just after birth.

"Well, I guess I won't know what will happen if I don't get ready to face it." Jason said as he got up.

The only thing he wanted right now was to be ARMED.

He could only think about getting his right arm back, it would be as easy as pie in this competition of power in the dungeon.

He would be able to exert more power when striking.

He would use both dagger and sword simultaneously = Dual Wielding.

He would also not have to go through the damned feeling of being handicapped.

"Perhaps, in a different timeline I did not exist or in another timeline I didn't lose my arm because I didn't answer quick enough."

But that would only make sense if the theory of different timelines wasn't just a theory and actually a fact.

"Aaah!" His mind's workings confused him.

"Whatever." Jason went into his house. "These are all just thoughts without meaning."

"I'll pull through... One step at a time, and one breath at a time."
