The Missing Cases.

Lee Rang face was stuck in Hjejin's head she didn't knew who he was but to her it felt like she knew him for ages. He looked so wicked at first glance but more when she remembered he looked liked someone who needed love in his life and Hjejin couldn't understand why she felt so sympathetic towards a man who had no compassion for a human life.

More than that why would his words anger her so much yesterday when that accident happened the woman with him kept on saying baseless things but she couldn't care less but when that guy said those words she felt so frustrated that she couldn't control her distress.

"The missing case are piling up and you are daydreaming" A senior officer snapped at Hjejin.

As he walked away Hjejin rolled her eyes at him, she looked at the board where all the information regarding missing people was pinned but there were neither any suspects nor a single evidence, whoever was the criminal behind this was ace at doing the crimes.

In past 2 months only 3 missing cases could be solved and they all were simple missing cases which were solved effortlessly but all these other cases were out of this world. Hjejin sighed and walked back towards her chair.

"Unnie, stop stressing about it, we'll find them soon" The new girl who recently joined the team said smilingly.

"Yah, why are you using your phone in your working hours, huh? Hjejin said strictly

She shut down her phone quickly. "Sorry senior but there was a new episode of Unveiling Urban Legend and I couldn't controlled my excitement."

"Unveiling Urban Legend, what's that a new drama or something?" A voice came from behind, both Hjejin and Haneul  turned at the sound of voice it was Jun-Suk, there another team member.

"Aish, it's not a drama, it's the true reality of our world where monsters lurk just like urban myths." The young girls said rather dramatically.

Hjejin smiled at her cuteness.

"Do you believe in those things" Jun-Suk asked them.

"Yes I believe in them" Haneul replied.

Then there attention turn towards Hjejin and Hjejin said rather unenthusiastically "why get scared of them when humans are the one we should be scared of."

Both of them laughed it off without realising how deep Hjejin words were.

Haneul looked at Hjejin and said "Senior why aren't you picking up your phone it's ringing for a while now."

Jun-Suk gestured Haneul to keep quiet but she looked confused.

Hjejin didn't reply to her question and walked away like Haneul never asked her anything.

She knew her phone was ringing and fir a fact she knew it was her mother. Her mother was the one calling her since weeks, the whole reason she was calling her was not because she was concerned about her daughter's wellbeing she was only calling Hjejin so she would force her to attend her and her step father's 10th anniversary celebration, where her mother would try to engage her with some of the richest businessman. Hjejin's mother herself married to one of the biggest business tycoon's of Korea just after a year Hjejin's father died.

Well the truth was her mother already had an extra maternal affairs with him, that was the reason why her father left home in the first place.

When Hjejin was young her mother and father always fought with each other, her father was a free loader and her mother worked day-night to make a living and she made sure Hjejin knew that, she would tell her she was a mistake, she shouldn't had her in the first place and all those nasty things that a child shouldn't know in the tender age.

Now because of that Hjejin was strong and independent she didn't need her mother at all. She was happy in her life and let her mother be happy in her own because if she re-enter her mother's life there would be nothing but destruction.

***

Lee Rang was dressing himself for another funeral because today his brother's girlfriend was going to be there and his brother wouldn't be there to protect her. He dressed in his favorite color, a dark black brazer and pant with black shirt loosening his shirt's collar botton, he smiled in satisfaction as he watched his own reflection in the mirror and suddenly yesterday's accident images popped in his eyes but most importantly that girl's, how brave she was to save a guy who has no sincerity, how strong she was and most intriguing out of all how annoyed she got afterwards when he said some words, well that was something very casual for him people usually got very annoyed with him when he told them the truth but what actually amazed him was how she suppressed her anger and walked away like nothing happened.

Yoori looked at Rang from living room and for some reason he was smiling to himself and she couldn't figure out why.

Hjejin's nose was in the files, she has to finish her work quickly to leave early.

She sorted all the papers and arranged them properly and she caught a glimpse of her ringing phone, first she ignored it but then picked up the call.

"What?" She said at first, her mother was also taken back not because of her words but for the first time in years she picked up her call.

"Yah! That's how you talk to your mother?" Without getting a word back from Hjejin side she continued "today is mine and your father's wedding anniversary so you must come here at once."

Hjejin suppressed her tongue for saying not my father your husband and took a deep breath and said without giving her any excuse "no, I won't."

Her mother knew, she would say that so she shifted to plan B.

"I know you're leaving office early today for coming here so why try hard to get."

Hjejin knew her mother has her spies here as she was now the wife of some richest businessman but rather than being angry she was happy that her mother knew that.

"Keep dreaming mother and yes I'm leaving early because I'm going to meet my father." She hanged up the phone.

Packing her stuff, biding her goodbyes to her team members and seniors she left the police headquarter early.

She started her car following the route of funeral hall she drifted away in her own thoughts.

Sometimes, the tightest bonds hurt the most.

Lee Rang was already at the funeral waiting for Ji-Ah to come, every now and then his lips would twitch in a smile as he witnessed the sadness of all those humans. He walked pass people and something similar caught his eye, that girl from yesterday. She held a small bouquet of flowers in her hand and put them in the box after that she stood there without crying or weeping and for the first time in forever Lee Rang didn't feel any joy looking at her, she reminded him of himself and he hated that feeling.

Hjejin looked at her father's picture for a long time and after that she couldn't control her emotion anymore and what she really needed now was a long cry with someone she called hers.

She swallow heavily and looked at the small gate which was connected to the hall where people usually ate. At the door stood the man from yesterday looking directly at her. Even though she wanted to talk to him about his resemblance to someone she might knew but her instict said one thing "DANGER!"

And right all she needed was to get home and get wasted because she couldn't control the emotions anymore.

She walked towards the gate and politely excused Lee Rang and walked away.

When she exited the funeral building she saw two women, one was with short hair crying over the other woman's shoulder and the other woman consoled her politely "cry or it will leave a scar"

She walked towards her car and smiled to herself, tears in her eyes "it already did"
