Agent Wander Son had landed just forty minutes ago. But he had to come straight to the hospital and see his artist for himself. He was already exhausted from not getting a proper rest for the last seventy-two hours. And having to catch three flights within those few hours did not do anything good for his health either.
The first thing he wanted to do when he saw Maevie was to give her a piece of his mind and declare that he would no longer be her agent after this incident. But his artist, as soon as he entered the room, gave him a bright smile. Her eyes were sparkling with so much radiance and happiness that he forgot what he wanted to do. And even suspected that the person before him was not his artist. But a doppelganger who had taken Maevie's place.
Otherwise, how could someone explain the vast difference in the disposition he saw.
"Wander! You're here!"
The Agent did not respond to his artist's excitement.
'There's something wrong here' He thought.
Maevie Oz could feel anger, disappointment, reluctance, name any emotion… But never a positive one. She would never to excited to see her agent who can't seem to stop criticizing her the first moment she appeared in front of him.
"…"
The agent looked Nora for some answer. Any answer. But the assistant who was standing at the side shrug her shoulders.
'Bro. I'm as confused as you are.'
Maevie knowingly or unknowingly ignored the little exchange between the two.
"Did Blaye pass the audition?"
Nora had informed her that Wander followed his newest signed artist to Yan City to give audition which had become vacant due to the injury of the originally casted actress.
"Yes… She joined the crew this morning."
Wander had yet to collect himself. And yet again he was shock at Maevie's interest of knowing the situation of her 'junior sister.' The temperamental actress had never been interested in Blaye before. She never did care that the resource she was getting after the new actress had signed under her agent had been low grade and lesser in comparison to before the new artist joined the 'family'.
And here she was asking the this and that about the journey, making efforts to start little conversation. Something which she had never done before.
'Maybe she had burned her fuse after these two misfortunes.'
Wander had many questions in he wanted to ask. But he had a more dire situation to clear up first.
"How did this happen? To get into huge mess in a short span of a week?..."
Maevie's effort of making little talks did not distract her agent from scolding her. Though it did have some effect since his tone wasn't as harsh as she remembered.
So as not to get more scolded, the actress, with the help of her assistant, convinced the agent that the truth was not how it was shown in the media.
"Are you sure that there would be a dash cam in the car? Even you yourself did not attach one in your car. How did you even think that someone else would?"
"…"
Maevie could only pout. She was sure. But it would not be believable to say that she saw it. Nor could she say that there was a system helping her, could she?
Before she could appease the doubtful agent, her brother came back to her room.
"Good evening, Mr. Tyler."
"Good evening, Agent Son."
The two men exchanged their greetings.
Tyler then turned to Maevie informed her.
"The dashcam has been retrieved."
"Really? So fast..." Maevie was amazed at the efficiency of Tyler's staffs.
"Hmm…" Tyler nodded.
He saw the relief and excitement in Maevie's eyes and was quick to dismiss it.
"We've only gotten the footage and yet to see what it captured. Don't get your hopes too high yet."
"Umm…" The young lady nodded her head. "I know."
Her words were a contradiction how she behaved. Maevie really could not contend the excitement she felt. After all, she had already seen what the camera had captured. And she was even more excited to clear up her name and make a comeback in the Entertainment Industry.
Tyler moved his eyes to the agent in front of him.
"Come with me to the office. To discuss on how to take the further steps."
"Yes Sir."
Just then, a nurse came informing that the visiting hour was over and asked for the family and friends to leave the ward. Agent Wander brought Nora out of the room to instruct her on some things, leaving Tyler alone with Maevie.
The older brother who was usually unphased to even the most pitiful tears she shed was looking at her with a mixture of guilt and pity. But of course, Maevie could see that he was not free from suspicions regarding her change.
Tyler knew that the changes he saw in his adopted sister would not last for long and that she would return to her obnoxious nature once again. Even so, that did not stop him from comforting her, as any responsible brother should.
"Don't think too much. Just rest well and reflect on yourself in the meantime. Mom and Dad may call you tomorrow. Don't feel too bad if they scold you. You've made a mistake. Acknowledge it and never repeat it again."
Maevie could not help the feeling of warmness; fulfilment that she got even as she was beings scolded. It was such a Tyler Josh Cacia thing to do. To comfort someone and scold the person at the same time.
"Am I clear?" Came the warning tone of the handsome man.
"Yes, Big brother. I was a fool before. I… I would not make the same mistake again."
The sincerity in her voice was different from the fake promises she gave before. Those empty words were nothing comparable to the heavy, emotion filled words that came out of her mouth.
"Hmm…" Tyler gave a satisfied nod. "Acknowledging your mistake is the first step of improving yourself."
Maevie nodded her head, like a little chick picking its grain.
From Tyler's point of view, the uncombed hair of the little girl was comparable to a kitten which had rolled around and messed it fur. He could not help patting the messy hair.
Maevie looked up and smiled at her brother.
"Get well soon."
Saying that the eldest young master of the Cacia family left the room, oblivious to the longing stare his adopted sister was giving, even long after he had left the room. Or the promise she made in her heart.
'This time… I'd never betray your trust again… Never!'
