The Unknown Past

"What do you wish for?" said a burning demon covered head to toe with flames. "Help me on my path towards eternal glory and wealth," said a voluptuous figure. In a array created out of thousands of candles, the figure laughed hysterically. "Young girl, we demons can't cause miracles," the demon cackled. "But your ambition is truly alluring. I have only one question, what are you willing to sacrifice?" the demon asked. "I'm willing to give up my soul for eternity," said the woman, cutting her palm open. With blood dripping down her hand, and on to the ground, the whole array lit up with a devilish glow.

He could feel power surge to him as he was anchored to the mortal realm. "Powerful and mana rich blood, you really are someone special," said the demon, looking at the woman with slight admiration. The fires on his body snuffed out as he passed through the barrier between Hell and the mortal realm. Breathing the chilling air of the mortal realm, the demon stretched his limbs. "It's been a while since I had the chance to visit the mortal realm," he said, as his large body began to shrink. "We shall begin our conquest right away, let us sweep through the lands with our unstoppable power, and a empire we shall build on our enemy's corpses," laughed the demon.

A hundred years passed, and with the demon's help, establishing a large empire on the face of the earth. The woman became the queen of the new empire, reigning over millions of people. The demon, who now took the appearance of a normal human being, hid behind the shadows, helping the queen with her every move.

Perhaps it was the long contract that the demon had with the woman, or perhaps it was the woman's natural charm, but in the end, the demon fell for the mortal. They conceived a child, and decided to name him Sisyphus. More years passed, but because of the woman's powerful life force, she was still healthy and vigorous. Their children however, was on the brink of death. To save their child, the demon managed to trick death twice. But mortals couldn't escape death forever, having being discovered, Hades punished him for cheating death twice by forcing him to roll an immense boulder up a hill only for it to roll down every time it neared the top, repeating this action for eternity.

Heart broken by the punishment, the woman fell ill. With her life force slowly slipping away, she said to the demon that was standing next to her bed. "Perhaps my time has come for me to fulfill my part of the deal, take my soul," she begged the demon, face covered in tears. So the demon's long stay in the mortal realm began, burning his lover's soul as fuel to anchor himself in the world. He carried his lover's soul in a oil lamp, showing her how prosperous her kingdom has become. Helping the rulers that took the throne of the kingdom, he saved them from countless disasters. But he could feel the chains from hell slowly wrap around his throat, pulling him back towards where he belong.
