Part 13: Graveyard

We stumbled harshly, desperately seeking a safe place until we found ourselves in another yard, but to our horror, it was a massive graveyard, eerily silent and haunting. The atmosphere was suffused with a chilling aura, and the sight of many old, smashed graves sent shivers down our spines. Our hearts pounded loudly in our chests as we realized the danger that lurked around us.

Suddenly, we caught sight of them – the zombies, slowly but steadily advancing toward us. Panic took over, and we knew we had little time to spare. Sarah and I made a split-second decision and ran frantically, trying to escape the clutches of the undead. However, as I glanced back, my heart sank to see the doctor lagging behind, unable to keep up the pace.

With a heavy heart, I urged Sarah to keep running while I circled back to help the doctor. As I reached him, it became clear that his strength had given out. Gasping for breath, he could no longer run. The zombies closed in, and our fate seemed sealed.

In a desperate attempt to save himself, the doctor quickly sought refuge by laying down on a free grave, trying to mimic a lifeless corpse. Sarah and I watched in terror from a distance, unsure if this desperate strategy would work. The zombies approached the doctor's makeshift hiding spot, and for a moment that felt like an eternity, our breaths were held in suspense.

To our astonishment, the zombies did something unexpected – they said nothing to the doctor. They seemed to merely inspect the grave he was lying on, as if they sensed something different about him. After what felt like an eternity, they quietly moved around the grave and eventually left the area, shuffling away in search of their next potential prey.

As soon as they were out of sight, Sarah and I rushed to the doctor's side, helping him up with shaky hands. We were baffled by the strange encounter, unable to comprehend why the zombies spared him. Perhaps it was an act of mercy from the undead, or maybe the doctor's clever ruse had fooled them into thinking he was one of them.

We dared not waste any more time in the graveyard, fearing the zombies might return or worse, more dangers might lie ahead. We supported the weary doctor between us and made our way out of that ominous burial ground, our minds filled with questions and trepidation.

What had caused the rise of the undead? Why were the zombies acting so strangely? We knew we had to find a safe place to regroup, gather our thoughts, and make sense of this terrifying reality. With every step, we ventured deeper into the unknown, hoping to find answers and survive whatever new challenges awaited us beyond the confines of the graveyard.
