"I think Sky had implanted his friends with his abilities," I suggested, interrupting a conversation ongoing while I was lost in my own head.
"Yeah, that would make sense. That Boo girl... I never would've thought that somebody would be as fast as I would. So, you're thinking Sky gave his speed to that girl, and that's why she could move as fast as me?" Fico asked me. I nodded.
"But that's the thing... he still had most of his abilities, just not that one. He could absorb energy, create ice, and shrink things down to minuscule size... that's the thing I can't wrap my head around, how did he choose which ability to give away? How much control does he have already?" I asked out loud.
"Control... son of a bitch, Illya got to him. That was all apart of her plan from the get-go... I'm impressed..." Fico pondered, staring at the ground while nodding with a smile.
"Fill us in, what's going on?" Kire asked, standing next to Fico while tapping his foot impatiently.
"Well, we all thought Illya was dead that entire time, right? Well, she was training Sky's strand control, specifically to give away his strands to whoever he chose to. She gave him the power to decide... and it was probably when that First Trial collapsed in on itself," Fico explained again.
The First Trial... one of the Trial Worlds from Overlord Eirikr.
"Magnificent, Illya accounted for the difference in our fundamental strand ability. We've been training for over fifteen years to gain our strength... yet, now Sky has as well. She put him through The First Trial and spent enough time with him in there, training his strand control, all to contest with our skill. I daresay Illya had read us through and through without us knowing," Fico said again. She said it so nonchalantly, but knowing we were betrayed by a fellow comrade enraged me.
"How could she do that to us?! You're saying that everything that's happened so far is because of Illya's planning?!" I shouted out. My volume exceeded the comfortable atmosphere of the room and attracted the attention of everybody, including Genesis.
"You can't have this conversation any quieter? Look, my sister is known for her planning in things like this. You played into her hand, but your enhanced eyes will allow you to fight back. Simply put, Fico should've been able to tell what was going on the entire time, but decided to keep her mouth shut above all else," Genesis said, spinning in his swivel chair to his desk to work on something odd.
"I didn't think Illya would betray us, I thought she was just suiting up to take on Overlord Eirikr. And frankly, I didn't even have to get involved. It seems Illya has gotten out of hand as well. We'll issue a death order for her now as well. We get Sky and Illya Asterio, and that Goddess of Wrath, and nothing else can oppose Overlord Eirikr. Sound good?" Fico said.
"You're just repeating the same shit you said earlier. This is old news, what I want to know is how good Sky's strand control is. Genesis, you're everywhere and you see everything, you're telling me you couldn't make it into The First Trial?!" Kire screamed at Genesis and he slammed his fine tools down on the desk out of irritation.
"I don't remember that being a phrase in the English language that stands for 'Thank You', but I guess with my old age I might forget some things sometimes. I told you already, I could only get as close as disguising myself under that Secretary format to go against Illya and figure out what was happening, but The First Trial is off limits to everybody. So shut your goddamn mouth while I work on this, and start being grateful I even gave you an opportunity to fight against Sky and Avie," Genesis said, grabbing onto Kire's shirt.
"You're lucky you're even alive right now old man. If you want to touch my shirt, I'll leave a bloodstain in that chair. Don't forget you stole my child and are very close to losing your life," Kire said.
I stepped back to let the conflict resolve itself.
"I stole your kid to save him, Kire, not to annoy you. I couldn't care less about an incapable kid like him, what I do care about is you being quiet in my living room. In case you haven't noticed, you aren't the ones hunting, you're being hunted. Think about it like this, when you kick a beehive and hide in your home with a flamethrower, who's the one hunting? Think about who you are in that analogy, and then consider that I'm the one who gave you dumb shitheads a flame-proof suit of armor!" Genesis yelled out in one long analogy.
"Do you think I care about some kid who's trying to live his life on Earth?! I only care about seeing Nova again and ripping her throat out with my bare hands. I don't give a shit about Sky or his people, and this is a known fact. If you want me to throw this whole operation in the garbage, keep talking shit in that spinning chair. Go ahead, I want a reason to get violent," Kire said. He was dangerously close to Genesis now. Their previous conflict caused a fight every time Genesis spoke.
"The tables have really turned, the Asterio in this room isn't as inclined with rage as the Madio, maybe your last name has been a lie this entire time," Genesis finished off, turning in his chair once more to look at his desk.
"I'm surprised you aren't dead yet, Hikari must be quite the protector," Kire suggested, turning back towards the rest of us.
"Hikari isn't protecting me, I'm protecting her," He quietly said, messing with something on the table a little more before leaving.
