Main character takes the place of Han Sen from Super Gene. For unexplained reasons, Lux, the main character, has a ridiculous drop rate of beast souls though, so he's got that going for him. Mostly follows canon in the beginning but will seriously diverge farther into the story as the MC becomes more powerful than Han Sen did much earlier. Will actually be a harem unlike in Super Gene. My chapters tend to be a little large... girthy you could say. I do not own Super Gene. Just like the world its based in. patreon.com/ChainedChompira if you want to read ahead or check out my other works.
Returning home was an exercise of paranoid fleeing and hiding going in circuitous routes around the Shelter to lose any tails and hiding away to remove his armor before heading back to his room and teleporting back to Alliance space. Ensuring a disconnect between Lux and Han Sen was a must. Especially now that Lux was having more interactions as himself. Even more so now that his Lux persona had pissed all over Son of Heavens dignity and even Qin Xuan's. They couldn't retaliate against Lux, but if they knew that he was Han Sen, they could target his family, and that was a no-no. Lux may not hold a lot of familial love for them, but he wasn't about to bring trouble for people that held that type of love for him. He would have to be a total dick to abandon his sister and mother to the predations of the government and an angry scion of the largest interstellar finance group humanity had to offer.
Starry Group was basically Blackrock of this world. Their fingers were in every pie, everywhere humanity had made one. Son of Heaven was the child of the owner of Starry Group. Meaning that he was really not someone to get on the bad side of. The squabble between Han Sen and Son of Heaven was small potatoes compared to Lux's public shaming of him earlier that day. In fact, Lux wouldn't be surprised if Son of Heaven forgot about his grievances with Han Sen because of Lux becoming even more of a problem for him… Actually, that was an amazing idea!
Lux plotted as a smile came across his face. The next time he returned to the sanctuary, Lux was going to casually comment about how he had snuck behind Son of Heavens hunting party and stole the last hit on that Wyvern. He would say that he felt bad about it and was looking for Han Sen to compensate him for having taken the sweet wings he'd gotten from the kill. He would purposefully make these comments to Lin Beifeng. Who, knowing and viewing Han Sen as a sort of blood brother, would more than likely try to mediate. Lux had loudly exclaimed during the hunt that he hadn't got the last hit! It hadn't been a purposeful tactic, just an in the moment thing. But it opened the door to Lux taking all the animosity from Han Sen in one fell swoop.
Lux cackled to himself as he made his way home. He had just figured out a way to totally get the scion of the Starry Group focused on some imaginary figure instead of focusing on his adopted family. Sometimes things just work out. And it wasn't a moment too soon to think of this plan. Going off to Blackhawk academy would mean that his family would be alone on Roca. His only concern with not being on the planet was that he wouldn't be able to do anything if Son of Heaven had taken action against his family. Now he could make it so that Han Sen's problems disappeared. Maybe he would even kill Son of Heaven in the tournament. Should that fail, Lux could at least have his attention directed where it couldn't hurt anything.
When he got home, he made a couple of calls. He checked in with Saint Paul's boarding school to see if Han Yan needed anything. They recommended upgrading her package to include special supplements that would support her through better physical training regimens, and a personal physician/nutritionist to get the most out of her education and training. Lux didn't even really need to think about it and upgraded her schooling package. Even if that bumped the price up to nearly five million dollars a year. It was worthwhile to ensure that Han Yan had the best of the best.
Then he called Han Yan herself to make sure that everything was good on her end, he informed her of the upgrade in her status and then they just chatted a bit. Lux told her about the Sanctuary and the kinds of creatures that he had encountered, and she told him all about the school gossip.
After a brief catching up with his sister, Lux went online to the Sain Hall's website. Pulling out one of his licenses, he used the information on it to log in and started browsing the stuff they had available. The interesting thing was that there was definitely something special about the Licenses that he had gotten. The Sain Hall's normal S-class tickets didn't let you get ahold of a lot of their greatest stuff. Their most popular of the S-class Hyper Geno Arts was called Holy Angel, and it was a derivative of one that he could get ahold of called The Archangels Revolution Sutra. The Archangels Revolution Sutra required one to have a minimum fitness rating of 14 to start practicing it though. Lux was fairly certain that he was close to being able to start that if he wanted to. But that wasn't Lux's intent. His intent was to get ahold of multiple different Hyper Geno Arts, have [Machine Learning] pick all of them apart and create his own Hyper Geno Arts that were better. The larger the sampling he could get, the greater speed that his trait would have in unraveling the mysteries of these arts. Honestly, it would be stupid not to use this advantage. [Machine Learning] had helped Lux deduce that Jadeskin was flawed and not actually suitable for continual growth. But he didn't have enough information to actually fix the art.
True Hyper Geno Art Sutras were superior types of Geno Arts. Most Geno Arts, even Jadeskin, require a special Geno fluid to help the practice and elevate the body through the ranks. Sutras did not require any external aids. Sutras were harder to learn and practice, many of them requiring a person to be at a significantly higher level of fitness than normal Geno arts just to start them. Then there was the fact that a Sutra could also be dangerous to practice even if you met the requirements. But that was what Lux needed, he needed samples of Sutras to figure out how to make his own.
Saint Hall only had five Sutras available at all. The Archangels Revolution Sutra, the 72 Earthly Transformations Sutra, the Celestial Palace Sutra, the Heavenly God Sutra, and the Atomic Physique Sutra. All of these Sutras were the basis upon which Saint Hall and the researchers working there created other geno arts. They were all classes as SSS-ranked Hyper Geno arts. And they were not normally able to be purchased. But apparently the Licenses that Lux had been given allowed him to acquire them. Which was Huge! Lux immediately spent five of his Licenses for all five of them. Then acquired a few other ones as well, Atomic Fission, Heresy Mantra, and Wedding Dress. Lux wasn't interested in the various martial arts that he could also get at this time. The Hyper Geno Arts were things that he needed to memorize and get [Machine Learning] to start building off of. Lux downloaded all of the information and began his marathon of instructional tutorial videos.
[Machine Learning] was absolutely Lux's greatest cheat he decided. The more information that he gained, the faster it worked. The greater his ability to take in information. And [Machine Learning] applied to everything. Muscle memory, predictive abilities, and information processing, it all applied and built off of it. It took Lux only a day and a half of going over the Sutras and hyper geno arts to learn them. Then, with all of the comparisons to go off of, [Machine Learning] was developing his understanding of Hyper Geno arts passively.
Literally, in only a few hours after he had finished learning all of the Sutras he had found out exactly what was wrong with jadeskin and was already working on how to fix the problem. The principles of the 72 Earthly Transformations were exactly what he needed to further Jadeskin into something the original creator would have died to be able to make. Of course, it would probably take a few days for [Machine Learning] to put it all together fully, but it was already working on it. And on top of that, [Machine Learning] was figuring out how to meld all of the sutras into one or at least combine portions of them together into equal level sutras that achieved more specific affects.
Lux really wanted to practice the 72 Earthly Transformations because of its effects. It didn't allow you to transform or shapeshift or anything like that. What it did was steadily transform the practitioners' cells into a state that can basically survive anything. Breathing water, living as a stone, being on the sun. It was like a preparation method designed to make the body capable of anything. Lux doubted that anyone had ever actually mastered it. The baseline necessary to practice the first chapter of the sutra was a 15.0 on the fitness scale. The practice was said to be incredibly painful as well. All of the Sutras were like that though, high requirements to practice and actually dangerous to practice if you weren't careful to do everything exactly right.
Lux put a pause on his ruminating and made a quick trip back into the sanctuary to see where the prelims were at. He still had a couple of days before his first round so he returned to his home in Alliance space shortly after. He had only been home for about an hour when his mother returned from the sanctuary herself.
"Sen! It's good to see you." She said and gave him hug, "How have you been?"
Lux smiled and began to relay a heavily edited version of what all he had been doing since she had last seen him. He then transferred half of all the money he'd made recently into her account and told her to check it. Her eyes went wide, and she started crying at that.
She lamented that she was a terrible mother for not being able to provide for Sen and Yan. That Sen would have to do such dangerous things to get money for the family was a source of self-loathing for her.
Lux shut her up right quick as she went down a spiral. It was not supposed to be her job to provide for the family. Sen's father was the one responsible. And Lux knew for a fact that the guy was still alive and had abandoned them. But beyond that, the guy could have easily set up his company to fall into his wife's hands after he passed and saved all of the trouble that Han Sen and the family had had to go through when he disappeared. Sen's father was the one that had created all of the issues for family. Lou Sulan scrambling to make ends meet was not a failure on her part, so much as a failure on her husband's part.
Of course, Lux couldn't reveal that he knew his dad was alive. But he did spin up a lot of facts that showed how irresponsible his father had been and how it was all his fault that Lou Sulan was in this situation. And now, Lux had fixed it. And with all the money that he had made already, not only was the family manor not at risk. Han Yan's future was secured, and Lou Sulan could stop working so hard to hold up a sinking ship.
After that Lux got her talking about where she was in the sanctuaries. How close she was to the next rank. And finally steered the conversation to her Hyper Geno Art. He wanted it. It was a Sutra that was guarded fiercely by the Lou family. Not for sale. And it had a few almost religious connotations with sacred duties that the family had decided to take on for themselves.
This was the second time he had broached the subject with her. But this time he had ammunition. He already had multiple sutras. He explained to her that he didn't want to actually practice it, but to learn from it. Which was actually true. Now that Lux was getting so much information about Sutras and finding out how they worked, why would he waste his time on ones designed for other people? He could tailor make ones that suited him specifically and grow almost exponentially more quickly. First, he would tailor the Jadeskin sutra to himself then he would create more refined versions of the ones that he had purchased specifically for his own use.
After a surprisingly short argument, Lou Sulan caved in and agreed to teach Lux the Falsified Sky Sutra. Warning him that she, and more importantly, her grandfather would be able to tell if he was practicing it. Something about the energy signature of the body of people who practiced it was recognizable to each other.
This turned out to be a fantastic piece of the puzzle that was Lux's understanding of Hyper Geno Arts in general. The Falsified Sky Sutra was a Sutra designed for Shura, and only those who had at least some Shura blood could even practice it. A normal human could try, but it would do absolutely nothing for them and may even cause them great harm. Lux already knew that he had some Shura blood on his mother's side somewhere down the line. He didn't remember how that had come about, but he did remember that it was a thing.
With the new information acquired, the speed of [Machine Learning] increased yet again. And with a few days to kill, Lux got onto one of his old plans since he was pretty much just waiting for [Machine Learning] to fix and customize Jadeskin. Creating an app company was the plan. He had already gotten a good grasp of programming in this world a long time ago, he just hadn't set aside the time to start. Now seemed like a good time.
So, with the goal of recreating candy crush, Lux sat down and started working at it. Though he doubted that he would finish before it was his turn to participate in the tournament, he could at least make some good progress, no?
And so, time passed. On the day that Lux's group was to compete, he returned to the sanctuary and found a good place to dawn his armor before making his way into the Martial Hall. He had indeed made some good progress on recreating candy crush. The only difficulty was making it cool and functional on the holographic displays of the commlinks. He would probably need at least a few more days of dedicated programming, but it would come together real soon.
Jadeskin sutra was fixed and now a proper Sutra. Which had changed the difficulty level substantially, but Lux could still practice it. Its effects would be significantly better than they were before, and the potential for the Sutra had skyrocketed. [Machine Learning] was still hard at work further refining and creating more Hyper Geno Arts as time went on. Soon Lux was probably going to have to set aside a whole 8 hours a day to just practice the various Sutras. He needed to go find a time chamber or something at some point to just sit around and practice the Sutras for a couple of years, but he wasn't sure where to find such a thing.
Anyway, Lux refocused his thoughts on the here and now. It would only be a few hours before his group took the stage. Scoping out the competition, Lux found that he was actually in the same group as several of Son of Heaven's lackies. Actually, Son of Heavens right hand man was in Lux's group. Luo Tianyang was his name, and he had a reputation for being one cruel bastard of a man. Well deserved too, Lux had already witnessed the man murder some mercenaries back with the Obsidian Wyrm cave incident. Lux was looking forward to this fight now that he knew this guy was going to be here. Because he was going to put the guy down for good.
Lux wasn't taking any risks with the tournament. He had brought with him the disguised katana that he had taken from the Shura. Technically it was the best weapon he currently owned. It was better than his sacred-blood spear by a decent margin at least. His spear would have trouble penetrating Sacred-Blood armor, but the sword had already demonstrated that it could and would slice right through Sacred-Blood armor. So, bringing the weapon was a must. Not for this first part of the tournament, but for when he got into the real tournament where he would be pitted against the best of the best from all the other shelters.
For the prelims it was probably unnecessary. But Lux didn't really care. He would more than likely be going full dragoon centaur mode and just using his spear. But if someone pulled out anything that he wouldn't be able to destroy in a single strike with just the spear, he had the backup.
Before the fighting could start however, Lux scanned the people within the Martial Hall until he found the guy he was looking for. Lin Beifeng. His carefully crafted story was delivered. And Lux handed one of his Primitive Rust Monster beast souls over to Lin Beifeng, saying that it was for Han Sen for stealing his last hit on the Purple-Winged Wyvern.
Lin Beifeng gave Lux an asschewing for leaving Han Sen high and dry like that. Lux got yelled at by his friend on his own behalf and he was super glad that he had armor on that fully concealed his face because he was having trouble stopping himself from laughing. Lin Beifeng was a good friend, no doubt about it.
With Han Sen's problems about to get resolved, Lux had a bit of trouble keeping the pep out of his step. He didn't want to look too happy. Even as Lux sat back on in his own little corner to wait for his group's turn he saw Lin Beifeng make his way over to Son of Heaven. He knew that his plan had been successfully executed when Son of Heaven's head jerked towards him with utter and complete rage painted across his features.
Lux's smile was well hidden beneath his golden armor. He was so looking forward to whatever was about to come.
