Chapter 6
Guy did the same on the hard floor, using his pack as a pillow. He was happily surprised when Ghost curled up on his chest and Shadow positioned himself against his side. I might not have a sleeping bag, yet, but between them they’ll keep me warm until I do. 2
“No pets allowed inside.” The man standing in the doorway of the drop-in spot looked sympathetic, from what Guy could see of his expression above the mask, so Guy knew he was only enforcing the rules. “You can leave your dog tied to the railing.”
“I…” Guy sighed. He didn’t have a rope, to say the least of a leash for Shadow.
As if echoing Guy’s thoughts, the man told him, “You’d better get a leash of some sort. The cops or animal control will take him if you don’t have one.”
“Yes, sir.”
“Stay here. I’ll be right back.” The man disappeared, returning a couple of minutes later with a long piece of rope. “Here. Tie him up and you can come in.”
