A pizza shop's business was booming every day, especially after more merchants from Sedona City started coming around. Many people were eager to try this strange-sounding dish.
After all, "pizza" was a word that no one had heard of in this era, and Lucas was the first to call it that, piquing everyone's curiosity.
"Table 5, one large pizza." A pizza shop staff member softly called as she passed a slip of paper through the window to the kitchen. "Elisa, here's the order."
"Got it." Elisa responded casually. Without even glancing at it, her slender arm reached out, and with two fingers, she precisely caught the order slip, placing it effortlessly on a nearby tray.
The tray already held twelve other orders waiting to be prepared. It was lunchtime, and people were steadily coming in for pizza. Ever since Lucas had adjusted the meal times, most of the wealthier citizens of Sedona City had adopted the three-meal-a-day routine.
"Phew..."
Elisa wiped the sweat from her forehead with her sleeve, her eyes focused intently on the oven. Every so often, she'd give a careful sniff, making sure the pizza wouldn't get burnt.
In this era, there were no ovens with timers or modern features. Everything relied on experience, gained through repeated practice.
Elisa thought back to the process of perfecting her pizza-making skills. The amount of ingredients wasted during practice could have fed her for ten days.
"It's done."
As soon as the pizza's aroma wafted through the air, Elisa noticed it. After waiting a little longer, she put on thick linen gloves, opened the iron oven door, and pulled out the pizza.
"Perfect." Elisa exclaimed, seeing that the pizza wasn't burnt. She picked up a small knife, sliced the pizza into eight pieces, transferred it onto a wooden platter, and grabbed the order slip from the tray. She pushed it to the counter and called out, "Small pizza for Table 3 is ready."
"Got it." Someone responded.
Elisa then continued with the next pizza, adding the requested toppings according to the order, and placed it into the oven. The shop had four ovens, but at the moment, Elisa could only manage two at once.
"When will I be able to handle four ovens like Miss Nicole?" Elisa sighed.
"Hehe... Elisa, you're already amazing. You're way better than the rest of us. We can only manage one oven each." Came a voice from beside her. It was another female employee working in the kitchen, making pizzas like Elisa. In fact, the entire pizza shop was staffed by girls, with three working in the kitchen alone.
"Yeah, Elisa, you can do everything in the shop now, unlike us who can only make pizzas," Another girl chimed in, full of admiration. "Who knows, maybe Miss Nicole will make you the manager one day."
"Manager? No, no, I'm far from that." Elisa quickly shook her head. She couldn't imagine managing the whole pizza shop as smoothly as Miss Nicole did.
During her time working at the pizza shop, the person Elisa admired most was Nicole. It seemed like there was nothing Nicole couldn't do. Yet, despite her incredible skills, Nicole always humbly insisted that it was all thanks to the teachings of Lord Lucas.
After a busy two hours, the lunch rush finally subsided, and the flow of customers sharply decreased. Elisa and the others could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
"Elisa, why don't you take a break?" One of the girls suggested.
"Yeah, leave the rest to us. There are only a few more orders left." Chimed in the other. Both girls encouraged Elisa to rest, knowing that between the two of them, they could only make about two-thirds of the pizzas Elisa could, and they occasionally burned a few.
"Alright, I'll go help out front." Elisa agreed, noticing there were only two orders left on the tray.
Stepping out of the kitchen, Elisa made her way to the counter and began organizing the coins. Among them, she spotted two silver coins, a clear sign that new merchants had arrived in Sedona City and come to try the pizza.
"As expected, today's earnings are better than yesterday, when it rained." Elisa muttered to herself.
"I must've made about seventy pizzas today. So just from commissions, that's seven copper coins for me?" She calculated, smiling to herself. "At this rate, it won't be long before I can buy a house of my own in Sedona City."
Elisa had become completely immersed in the comfortable life of Sedona City, to the point where she was reluctant to leave. In fact, she found herself thinking that even if she did leave, she would probably return someday.
"Creek."
The door swung open, and Peter walked in. He had come for lunch. After spending some time gathering information around the city, he discovered that no one knew much about the Patrol Guard Division—only that it had been established by the city lord.
With the Patrol Guard Division newly established, the common people hadn't had the chance to learn what it actually did. How could they know its purpose?
Peter had been busy all morning and was now hungry. Remembering the small beastmen he had heard earlier talking about pizza, he decided to try it for himself.
"Welcome to the pizza shop." Elisa called out as soon as she heard the door open. "Please, have a seat over here."
Peter glanced around and noticed the shop's unusual decor. His eyes widened when he saw Elisa.
'Green eyes? But the hair is gray, and the ears are covered by the hair…'
Peter muttered to himself. His professional instincts kicked in. Whenever he saw someone who looked somewhat familiar, he would instinctively try to identify them. If it weren't for the gray hair, he might have thought he had coincidentally run into his target.
"..."
Elisa's hand shook slightly as she held the menu. Her green eyes narrowed. She had heard Peter's muttering and instantly realized that the older man before her was a bounty hunter, and he was clearly after her.
Elisa felt that dyeing her white hair gray was a brilliant decision. The secret to the dye was a little trick she had learned from a friend by chance. It had helped her escape the capital. However, during her time searching for hair dye ingredients in various cities, she had inadvertently left some traces of her whereabouts.
Now, a bounty hunter had actually tracked her all the way to Sedona City. Elisa wasn't sure whether to commend these hunters for their keen instincts or cry at her bad luck.
"May I take your order?" Elisa asked calmly.
"I'll have a medium pizza." Peter said casually, flipping through the menu and choosing a pizza at random.
At the moment, he was too preoccupied with trying to figure out how to rescue Hal. A direct assault was out of the question, and he was deep in thought about possible strategies.
"Alright, please wait a moment."
As Elisa took the menu and turned around, her green eyes flashed with a cold light before she let them soften. Her identity remained concealed, and she decided it was best not to make any moves that might reveal her presence. If she did, she'd have to leave Sedona City.
She resolved to continue hiding in the pizza shop, maintaining her cover so that no one would suspect she was an elf. No one would expect that an elf was hiding right under their noses. With the limited clues from before, it would be very difficult for the bounty hunters to uncover her true identity.
"Maybe this will turn out to be an interesting game after all." Elisa mused, a slight smile curving her lips as she sent the order to the kitchen.
