"Great! Welcome to the Foundation." Ethan said with a smile as he extended his right hand.
Skye hesitated but quickly shook his hand lightly with both of hers, not daring to refuse.
"Now, let's get to the rooftop. I'll have a helicopter pick you up from there."
The two of them quickly ascended to the rooftop, but by that time, SCP-096 had completely broken free from the vines that had held it.
From the rooftop, Skye anxiously watched SCP-096 below as it freed itself. "What do we do? It's loose! When's that helicopter going to get here?"
Just as she finished speaking, the sound of helicopter blades cut through the air. A rope ladder was dropped down from above.
"You go first!" Ethan handed the ladder to Skye.
Grabbing the rope ladder, Skye looked back at Ethan. "Aren't you coming with me?"
"I need to keep it occupied here... And besides, it's too late now."
As soon as Ethan finished speaking, SCP-096 scaled the building and appeared on the rooftop, charging towards them with unrelenting fury.
Seeing this, Ethan muttered under his breath, "It can climb walls? Even Spider-Man would be impressed!"
SCP-096 is almost unstoppable—there's no method on Earth that can prevent its relentless pursuit. Even if someone hides in a sealed underground bunker, SCP-096 would dig them out to finish the job.
"Ethan, the Blind Task Force is on-site, but the containment equipment for SCP-096 is still en route. We need you to hold it off," came the anxious voice of Dr. No from the earpiece.
"By the way, Coulson's here too. He's clearing out the area. You can go all out now."
Listening to the report, Ethan's expression grew serious as he stared down SCP-096. He couldn't help but wonder what reward he might earn for successfully containing SCP-096. Would it be its speed? Or perhaps something else entirely?
As these thoughts crossed his mind, Ethan launched a surprise attack. He pulled out a vial of Growth Serum from his system inventory and poured it all over SCP-307, the carnivorous ivy.
Absorbing the serum, SCP-307's vines rapidly expanded. In less than two minutes, the entire rooftop was covered with thick, electric-pole-sized tendrils. The vines quickly ensnared SCP-096, wrapping it up into a massive cocoon.
"That should hold it for a while," Ethan thought, momentarily relieved.
It was fortunate that SCP-096 lacked intelligence; otherwise, it would never have been restrained by the vines again and again. SCP-096's speed was near that of sound, and it could even dodge bullets if it wanted to. The fact that the vines managed to capture it at all was already astonishing.
Seeing SCP-096 temporarily subdued, Ethan asked over the comms, "What's next?"
Dr. No quickly responded, "The plan is simple: The Blind Task Force will briefly incapacitate SCP-096, then we'll lock it inside a containment box."
"Are you sure a regular metal box can contain SCP-096?" Ethan questioned.
"It's not just any metal box," Dr. No clarified. "It's a cryogenic containment box, with an internal freezing system that can drop temperatures to minus 200 degrees Celsius. Once SCP-096 is inside, it will be frozen solid."
"But will freezing really work on SCP-096? According to the data from SCP-307, SCP-096 doesn't have any body temperature."
Dr. No chuckled confidently. "That just means it'll freeze even faster!"
Realizing the logic, Ethan nodded. It seemed that this was indeed a job for the professionals.
Soon, the Blind Task Force arrived at the scene.
"Ethan, you can retreat now. Once the containment box arrives, we'll need you to stand on top of it. Since you've seen SCP-096's face, it will target you. We need a decoy."
"So... I'm the bait?" Ethan sighed, realizing how things had escalated. He never expected to encounter SCP-096 when he came here. If not for the sudden turn of events, he would never have looked at SCP-096's face.
"Well, bait it is, then," Ethan resigned himself to the role as he slid down from the rooftop using SCP-307's vines.
Just as Ethan reached the ground, SCP-096 finally broke free from its bindings. Seeing Ethan below, SCP-096 leaped from the 20th floor.
BOOM!
The sound of the impact reverberated through the area. SCP-096's long, thin legs were dislocated upon landing, yet it continued crawling forward using its arms. Within moments, its legs popped back into place, and it resumed its relentless pursuit of Ethan.
The Blind Task Force, now on the scene, launched an attack on SCP-096. However, to SCP-096, the Blind Task Force was essentially invisible. No matter what they did, SCP-096 ignored them, single-mindedly advancing towards Ethan.
Seeing this, the Task Force leader ordered, "Break its legs and throw it into the containment box!"
The Blind Task Force members were a specially trained group of blind operatives. Although they couldn't see, their sensory abilities had been enhanced to an almost supernatural level, thanks to the high-tech earpieces they wore. Their senses were now comparable to a bat's echolocation, making them an unstoppable force.
