Volume 1 - Chapter 23: Last preparation

The group entered the ruined kingdom and saw run-down buildings everywhere. They prudently walked inside as they carefully watched their surrounding. They were currently inside a no-safe zone, and danger could appear anytime if they weren't careful.

"Well, that's disappointing, and I wanted to witness the history of this place." Said Sora as he looked around him.

Every house or road was in bad condition, be it from the passage of time or destroyed by Grimm or the legendary catastrophe during their time.

It was a shame since Sora was interested in this famous kingdom. Moreover, he heard about the prince from the fairy tale and his conjecture. This place might be related to the dark god, one of the twin gods who ruled Remnant before they left.

Even if the god is not related to this kingdom, he might find something about magic at the very least. From his knowledge, he knows that the four maidens are the only people able to wield magic.

However, his Remnant is very different from the series he watched on Earth. There might be more magic users in his world or something even more dangerous.

Sora needs to unlock and advance his system for his security and friends. This new world made him alive compared to Earth, where he felt lonely…

Anyway, he should focus on his current mission and not on his past but on the present with his friends.

The professor warned them that a Titan Grimm might appear during their mission, so they had to be careful.

Sora wasn't going to lie, but he was interested in meeting a Grimm-level Titan. He would like to gauge his current strength with the Albedo character card. Those types of Grimms are not easy to find because they are often identified as catastrophes by the people of Remnant.

There are currently three known Titan-level Grimms Remnant from what he found online.

The mighty Leviathan Grimm resides in the great sea, and the Great Ape Grimm lives inside the Mountain Glenn, which is very close to Vale. Still, luckily, there wasn't any news about it coming near the city, and finally, the sandworm Grimm that terrorizes the endless desert of Vacuo.

He should take some time after he became strong enough to visit them and find more of those titan Grimm. Sora believes there should be more of them.

The group didn't get separated yet, as they were looking for a relatively safe spot before their first-year mission started. They were also waiting for some reinforcement from Beacon Academy, but that doesn't mean they should let their guard down.

The search wasn't peaceful either as some Grimms took action toward the group but got dispatched with some eager first-year or by the senior.

The professors looked at us from the side, and it looked like they won't easily lend help if the situation was not serious, unlike the seniors.

Sora also had some chance where he killed some Grimms that came to his group. He was okay with it since he gained some acting progress with it.

It was impeccable.

Sora was currently at 83% of his acting progress, and he might be able to finish it after this expedition. He still needs to find a way to play the second character from the system.

He can't possibly suddenly change one day, and he might get sent to the hospital if he became another person, especially in front of his team and, more importantly, Ozpin.

That would be an awful scenario for him, and he can't play a double life like some superhero, and he can't only respect them.

Please teach me the way, Batman!

It was pretty dark as the group decided to camp for the night with a duo of people taking charge of looking out. Of course, with rotation included for the surveillance! That wouldn't be good otherwise.

The mission should officially start tomorrow! Sora and his group were prepared to clean up any Grimms that stood in their way!

Oh, and Jean and Sora are the first pair of the night.

Luckily, the night went well, and they calmly finished their shift as they changed places with another pair of students. Sora and Jean were pretty tired and immediately fell asleep when entering their sleeping bag.

Let's hope there won't be any problem for the rest of the night.

"Okay, students, the mission will start in five minutes!" Glynda shouted loud enough for every student to hear her.

"Ah, well then, let's get ready, Sora." Said Gran as he left Sora's team with Lyria, who also came to talk with Atalanta.

They were really good friends, and Atalanta had a soft spot for her even though she was younger than Lyria.

The students gathered as a group and in front of the teacher as they noticed a woman's figure within the teacher's group.

The students recognized the woman as they saw her information on the school website or at school.

She is Najenda, the security at Beacon Academy.

Najenda is a woman with short silver hair and purple eyes. She wears an eyepatch where her right eye used to be. She wears a black suit that shows her cleavage. She has a green and black mechanical right arm.

"I'm sure everyone recognized her, but if you don't. She is Najenda, a staff from our school, and she will be participating in today's expedition." Said Glynda as she presented her friend and colleague to everyone.

"This mission will start this way. First of all, we will divide the group into six groups, and each group will have one teacher and two seniors within.

"Let's start with team DEEZ, and you are with professor Bartholomew Oobleck, Siegfried and Vane."

"All right, my little junior. Please come to us!" said Vane with a smile as he waved his hands to catch their attention."

"Nice to meet you, senior Vane and senior Siegfried." Said Dean, the leader of his team.

"Hahaha, don't worry. You can call me by my name."

"Understood, Vane."

"That's the spirit!"

"Next team is team NUTS with Najenda, student Katalina and student Rackam." Said Glynda as she continued forming teams with her scroll.

"Yooo! Let's go! We have two beauties with us." Whispered Nord to his team as he looked at Najenda and Katalina with excitement.

Thor scratched his head as he couldn't under his leader's happiness. "I don't understand why you are like that, Nord. Aren't they just women? There's nothing special for you to be this excited."

Nord spared him a glance with a straight face. "Don't talk to me, you hammer lover."

Thor: !!!

What's wrong with me loving my hammer?!? Can't a men love his hammer without getting judged!

"Thor issue aside, you should calm down, Nord. Those women seem pretty fierce, so don't offend them if you can, especially that woman Najenda." Said Vergil worryingly from the side.

"Ha, don't worry. I still want to leave them a good impression of me!"

"C'mon, we wasted enough time. Let's join them." He interjected Ulysse from the side as he went toward his group first.

"Ulysse is right. Let's go before they get angry with us."

"Yeah, yeah~."

Team NUTs left the group as they joined their chaperone with a sulky Thor behind them.

"What's wrong with my love for my hammer…."

"Finally, team JSTA you are with me, student Gran and student Lyria."

"Hey, we are with Gran and Lyria!" exclaimed Tifa in surprise.

They were surprised with the result, and they were okay with that. They knew Lyria and Gran, so it was perfect for them.

Atlanta was delighted to team up with Lyria, and professor Goodwitch seemed to be a reliable teacher.

"Hey, Sora! Everyone! Come join us!" shouted Gran happily as he waved them with a shy Lyria beside him.

"Let's go, everyone. We shouldn't waste their time." Said Jean as she took the lead and joined them.
