Chapter 48

While Lex could only recall snatches of the evening, the one thing he remembered with extreme clarity was how Trent had reacted when Lex had misread Trent’s words and actions and tried to kiss him. Lex’s only hope was that Trent’s drunken state had erased that moment from his memory and the two could go back to the time before Lex’s colossal blunder and be the friends they were.

Stopping at the food booth to order coffee, Lex’s stomach lurched at the smell of the sausages and eggs cooking on the greasy grill. He quickly got his coffee and turned to leave.

“God, you look like shit!” Sonny Hammill, a fellow competitor said, laughing as he walked past Lex on his way to the order window.

“Feel like it, too,” Lex responded, sipping his coffee.

“If it’s any consolation, Trent looks worse.”

“He does?” Lex asked, suddenly more alert.

“You two musta had some sorta wild night.”
