Chapter 3

"Nakalagay sa testamento ni lolo na kapag wala akong asawa kapag nag-twenty-five ako, ibibigay niya sa Auntie Camilla ko ang pamana niya sa akin." At di siya papayag na mapunta dito ang nag-iisang pamana ng lolo niya sa kanya. Mabuti nang hayaan niya iyon kay Reid Alleje dahil tiyak na mapapangalagaan nito.

Tumango-tango ito. "I get it." Naningkit ang mata nito sa sumunod na clause ng kontrata. "Hindi tayo magsasama sa iisang bubong?"

"Why are you shocked, Mr. Alleje? You have your own life and I have mine." Nasa Amerika pa siya at nag-aaral. "Our marriage doesn't have to change anything. Di naman hinihingi na magsama tayo bilang mag-asawa. Ang hinihingi lang ng testamento ay makasal ako."

"So it is just a marriage in papers only?"

"Exactly!" Nakangiti niya itong pinagmasdan habang ipinagpatuloy nito ang pagbabasa. Kung tutuusin nga ay pabor dito ang kontrata na iyon. Di nito kailang intindihin ang asawang tulad niya.

"If I can't buy your land, what will that make you?"

Napaisip siya. "A secret partner perhaps."

Mariing nagdikit ang labi nito. "Lady, I will be the sole owner of the Stallion Riding Club. And there is no way in hell that I will have a lady business partner."

"Wala naman akong alam sa business. Formalities lang naman ang pagiging partner mo. I will be a silent partner. Hahayaan kitang magdesisyon sa lahat. And besides, di ko rin pakikialaman ang kayamanan mo. What's yours is yours and what's mine is mine."

"Then I will send your part in your account." Bumuntong-hininga ito. "I will retain a specific part of the property."

"May kubo na paborito ng mommy ko. Nasa gilid naman iyon ng property. I want to preserve it for her memory."

"Walang problema sa akin ito. I can make an adjustment." Inilapag nito ang kontrata sa mesa. "This contract looks fine with me. However, you overlook some situations. Paano ang boyfriend mo?"

"Let's set the wedding."

Napanganga siya. "Magpapakasal na tayo?"

"Yes. The sooner, the better. Do you want a grand wedding?"

Natawa siya. "Bakit pa? Wala namang dapat makaalam na kasal tayo. Ours will be a secret marriage. So we can get a quiet annulment afterwards." Di na kailangan pang madamay ang mga pami-pamilya nila o iba pang tao.

Naitapik nito ang kamay sa table. "Oh, yes! I forgot."

She was totally in control. Wala na itong gagawin kundi sumunod na lang sa lahat ng gusto niya. Lahat ay umaayon sa plano niya.

"We can get my lawyer as our witness. And we can also fly to Las Vegas or to Mexico for a quick wedding."

"Whatever you want," anito sa matigas na boses. "You had this all thought out, right?" Di ata natutuwang sunud-sunuran sa kanya.

"Business is business after all."

Inayos nito ang necktie. "I want to add another clause in the contract. I am responsible for keeping an eye on you."

Di nito pinansin ang pagtutol niya. "If you will do anything to taint my name, I will make sure that you will pay for it. More than the money, the honor of my family name is very important to me."

"I agree with your terms." Di naman siguro siya gagawa ng makakasira dito.

Tumayo ito. "I will take care of our trip to Vegas tomorrow. I will fetch you tomorrow at your condo, Mrs. Alleje."

Mrs. Alleje. Mrs. Tamara Alleje. It seemed odd. Pero magandang pakinggan.

But it would be only in name. Kahit kailan ay di niya magiging totoong asawa si Reid Alleje.
