Vortex

"Yes, mom I'm eating well! I can't just sit around and look for new lands to invest in, right? I'm going to sleep now. We'll talk tomorrow before I leave for work, I promise," Akhil says, putting down the phone before his mom could reply with her usual "love you, sweet dreams my millionaire son who is still single."

Akhil Alarie, a 22-year-old, Millionaire Real Estate Investor, started saving at a young age to buy things he needed which turned into a habit; the best thing he ever did. At such a young age, being a millionaire was a dream to some, but not to Akhil. Since childhood, he has never needed anything. His parents made enough to support his five member family with change and that's how he started saving, thinking it might be useful in the future and useful it was.

Akhil's life wasn't filled with much hardship and being the person he is: smart, hard-working and always optimistic. His life is what you would call perfect — well, almost.

The next morning

"Mr Alarie, we've found some suitable lands for you to look at to invest in. They have been showing signs of being a part of government development plans, but the government has yet to purchase them," the secretary said. " Well, leave them, for now. If the government has yet to purchase them that means there is a problem. Do an onsite visit then report back to me," instructed Akhil.

Screams! Screech! crash! Boom! "wait", he looks outside. "what's happening outside? gasp! why is the sky red?" gasped Akhil. " Sir, we need to evacuate right now. Monsters are entering the building!" screamed a worker as he bolted outside.

Akhil quickly exited the building amid people screaming in horror as more monsters continued to flood the building through what seemed to be a portal.

"Help! Help! Help!" a female screamed, stuck under fallen debris. He stopped and looked before going to help the female.

Grunts! "lift you stupid stone," Akhil says trying to motivate himself to put more power. Rattle! cackle! Clank! "Quickly crawl out!" strains Akhil. Buff! the debris falls, barely missing her left leg.

" T....t..... thank..... behind you!" the lady screams with fear as a monster swipes its claws at the unsuspecting Akhil. "Ahhhhh!" he screams in pain. "Is this where I die? Is this where everything ends?" thought Akhil as he pants in fear staring at the seven feet tall, humanoid creature with its wide drooling mouth walking closer, scraping its claws against the debris with a look of ecstasy as blood flows from Akhil's back.

As the creature lunges after Akhil, he grabs a steel bar and quickly hits it while in mid-jump.

Both grunt as the pain inflicted on one another hurts. With this chance, Akhil fights to get up and runs into a building seemingly unaffected by all the chaos caused by this apocalyptic occurrence.

Akhil finds refuge under an office desk. From there he listens intently to the screams,explosions, screeching car tyres from outside until the sudden slow end of a child's cry catches his attention as if it has died at the claws of the wolf-like creature.

Crash! growl! the creature knocks something over as he searches for his runaway prey. It sniffs the to catch a scent. It catches the scent of Akhil's blood in the room next to it.

It slowly manouvers the room, trying not to spook its prey. "rrraaaghhh" it leaps toward the corner, tackling, biting and tearing into what seems to be a shirt. Akhil had removed his blooded shirt and thrown it at a distance away from where he was. Realizing that the feeling and taste it is getting is not human flesh, it quickly stops and sniffs the shirt, trying to catch the scent of its prey.

Under the table, Akhil covers his mouth to mask his rapidly increasing pants as he hears the kerfuffle, thinking that his plan had worked he rushes from under the desk heading for the door when suddenly the creature leaps from behind but slides on water from a leaking fire alarm pipe when it landed.

Recovering its balance the creature slowly approaches Akhil and without a thought, Akhil turns around and runs up a flight of stairs, pushes a door only to find himself at the top of the building overlooking the burning cars and people frantically running frantically trying their best to secure their lives.

Then Boom! screech! the hinges loosen on the door as the creature slams against it and again boom! But this time the door unhinges landing flat. Crash! He then bolts after Akhil before he escapes again.

"Raaaaaarggghhh!" it roars sprinting, shocked and consumed by fear, Akhil trips and falls over the edge with the creature falling with him.

As flashbacks of his life play through his head, he realizes that his life may not have been long, but he made some of his dreams possible and made his family happy and with that, he lets himself go free, accepting that his death is a floor or two away.

But suddenly a vortex opens below, swallowing both him and the creature.

Swirling around in the pitch-black vortex with the occasional lightning strikes giving enough light to see the creature approaching him fighting back the centrifugal force of the vortex.

As Akhil moves towards the centre away from the creature, he watches in disbelief as he hopes for survival and then bloops! poof!

Everything goes dark.
