Chapter 413 ( Decision )

Houki slowly took a breath as she watched Lindow - "What do you think he's doing?"

"I have absolutely no idea" - Tatenashi replied as she shook her head, only to widen her eyes in surprise as she saw how Lindow seemed to have calmed down - "I think it's time to fight the second round."

Lindow slowly watched the two women with a grim expression on his semi-humanoid face as he began to walk in their direction.

"I guess this is where our hopes of his returning to normal end" - Houki said as she stood at attention. She slowly looked at her [Shields] meter, only to sigh regretfully as she saw how they were still on the floor.

"We came with the mindset of finishing him off, so it's not much of a problem" - Tatenashi replied as she stood up. The little time he had to rest, was more than enough to regain the energy to be able to fight, though that didn't mean it would last for long.

"Are you sure you can fight?" - Houki asked with concern.

"More than sure" - replied Tatenashi with a serious expression - "I may not last long in battle, but it's more than enough to be able to give you the support you need to end its existence."

"OK" - nodded Houki while his katanas glowed slightly - "If that's what you decided, then I'm going to accept it with open arms, but I'm only going to ask you one thing, that you don't do anything stupid."

"It's not like Ichika" - Tatenashi replied with disdain.

"Just, don't do anything stupid" - Houki repeated while crossing her katanas to block Lindow's attack - "Tch, you should at least let us finish with our conversation."

"At times like these, I hate not having a long-range weapon" - Tatenashi growled as she made up her mind to train with firearms when she returned home.

"If we get back" - replied Houki as she shook her head.

Tatenashi was about to say loud more, but fell silent as she saw Lindow again initiate her attack - "Tch!"

Houki quickly blocked the attack as Tatenashi launched a powerful spear attack that pierced through the beast's defenses.

Lindow screamed in pain as he felt his whole world turn crimson red from the fury he was feeling.

"It's not as much damage as I thought, but I can't expect much from a weapon that's almost out of energy" - Tatenashi muttered as she withdrew her spear from the beast's body.

"At least we know we're not afraid to kill it" - replied Houki as she tried to look on the bright side of the situation.

"Good to know, now let's move on" - said Tatenashi seriously as her friend nodded. This would be a tough battle, not because it was difficult, but because they were not in very good condition.

"Report!" - Sakuya exclaimed as she wiped the sweat from her forehead.

It had been 30 minutes since the battle had started and Houki had gone inside the fog, but none of that mattered, after all, the soldiers were fighting with everything they had.

"We've lost three of our comrades, but we've killed all the low-ranking [Aragami], leaving only 5 [Aragami] of danger level B" - replied a soldier as he sighed with regret after telling of the loss of 3 of his comrades.

"Don't feel sad, they sacrificed for all of us, they are heroes" - replied Sakuya while looking around and noticing how Tsubaki and Sofia were still in shock.

"It's sad to see how two such prominent [God Eater], ended up worse than some cadets who are fresh out of the academy" - said a soldier with disdain as he looked at the two women, after all, if they had helped, their comrades wouldn't have met such tragic deaths.

"Yoh!" - exclaimed another soldier as he looked at his comrade.

"What? I'm saying what we all think" - said the man while frowning as he looked at the expressions of his comrades - "We have all suffered losses during our work as soldiers, but we carry on regardless, after all, we cannot let the sacrifice of our brothers and comrades, be in vain, but they are trash, they are discouraged by the death of just one person."

". . ." - the soldiers looked at each other as they kept silent, after all, their comrade's words were true.

"We are in a world where human lives are worth less than a plate of food, where at any moment we can die because of those things!" - Yoh exclaimed as he looked at Sophia and Tsubaki with disdain - "What makes them different from us? Do they think they are the protagonists of this world? That they can't suffer the death of someone important to them? Don't be stupid! We all have the same chance of dying! We are not characters in a story!"

The soldiers nodded as they listened to all the speech of their companion while they once again got into formation so they could continue with the battle.

Sakuya remained silent after listening to the soldier because she did not know how to react, although she had to admit that he was right. They were not characters in a story, they were alive, and as such, they could die at any moment. Even Cloud was on the verge of death, so why wouldn't they be?"

"You people don't understand anything!" - Sophia roared angrily as she glared at the soldier who had spoken.

"Don't we understand anything?" - Yoh asked disdainfully as he looked at his companion - "Albert, tell me, how did you lose your family?"

"They were torn apart by a stampede of [Aragami]" - Albert replied neutrally as he looked at the woman with hatred - "They both died in the most painful way possible, torn apart by those damn beasts."

"Josh" - Yoh continued as he looked at his best friend.

"My wife was raped and killed" - replied the soldier named Josh as he muttered coldly - "But god is fair and Karma always comes, they died being torn apart by a group of [Aragami], but it's a pity I couldn't kill them with my own hands."

"Ben" - Yoh said again.

"My younger brother died in service alongside my father" - said Ben as they all looked at him silently, after all, they knew his story - "My father died after killing my brother who had been transformed into one of those things by using his [God Arc] too much, he had to suffer with the death of his son before he bled to death."

The other soldiers began to tell their stories because still the [Aragami] were not attacking, though that didn't mean they had let their guard down. They were prepared to counterattack the moment one of those things came near.

Sophia ducked her gaze in embarrassment as Tsubaki stood mute.

"As you can see, each of us has lost our loved ones" - Yoh replied disdainfully as he looked at the woman - "I for one, lost my daughter, a baby that had just been born".

"I saw how those things tore her apart, how my wife died trying to protect her, how my mother committed suicide after hearing about my family's fate, how my father died from grief" - Yoh added as he glared hatefully at the two women - "I've lost hundreds of comrades I treated like a brother during all my years of service, so don't say we don't know what it feels like to be in your shitty situation"

"Every one of us has suffered the same, or even more than you!" - Yoh roared as he walked over to the two women with blood red eyes - "We've felt our hearts break, our lives lose meaning, but we're still alive, we're still going on! And you know why! Because we don't want more people to suffer the same as us!"

The soldiers raised their heads in pride.

"That's called being mature" - Yoh growled as he narrowed his eyes - "It was called knowing how the world works, knowing that there are people who suffer more than you, you spoiled little girl!"

Sakuya watched silently as they tore her teammates apart with words alone, only to widen her eyes in surprise as she watched the few [Aragami] that remained, advance in their direction - "You can save all this for another time, we have pest control work to do now!"

"Hai!" - exclaimed the soldiers fiercely.

"OK" - muttered Yoh as he gave the two women a neutral look before going to his co-workers.

Tsubaki tried to say something, but only a glare from the soldiers caused her to remain speechless.

Sophia bit her lip before looking in the direction of the fog and making a decision. She quickly ran in the direction where her boyfriend was with a firm expression, she was determined to save him no matter what.

"Sofia!" - Tsubaki exclaimed upon seeing this in terror - "What are you doing!"

"Saving my boyfriend!" - Sofia exclaimed as she continued to run.

Tsubaki looked in the direction where Sofia had gone, then looked at the soldiers - "Ugh."

"Do whatever you want to do, but I want you to remember one thing, this decision may be paramount" - replied Sakuya seriously.
