----------------------------------------------------------------
"King," Di Tian bowed his head respectfully to the silver-haired girl in the center of the Lake of Life, earning incredulous stares from the various ferocious beasts present.
To be frank, not only was the Skydream Iceworm astonished, but so were the other beasts. The act of addressing each other in such a manner seemed incredulous given Di Tian's noble bloodline.
Di Tian's bloodline was exceptionally noble, and it was a critical factor enabling him to subdue the soul beasts within the Star Dou Forest. He was bestowed with the honorific title of the "Golden-Eyed Black Dragon King." This title could be broken down based on his lineage; he belonged to the Black Dragon Clan, one of the Nine Great Dragon Clans. Furthermore, he held the esteemed position of being the patriarch of the Black Dragon Clan.
The nobility of the Nine Dragon Clans' bloodlines was undeniable. A simple example served to illustrate the point: the extinct Thunder Dragon Clan was a subordinate branch of the Nine Great Dragon Clans. From this, one could understand the exalted status of Di Tian's bloodline. However, despite this exalted lineage, he respectfully referred to a girl as "King"!
Could it be that the Dragon God was the figure being referred to? After all, throughout the history of soul beasts, the only one capable of taming the Dragon Kings of the Nine Great Dragon Clans was the Dragon God, the co-ruler of soul beasts.
This led to speculation about the identity of the silver-haired girl. Facts and conjecture intertwined, leaving many beasts bewildered, their rational thoughts in disarray.
Unperturbed by the musings of the beasts below, the silver-haired girl remained poised. Her clear purple eyes shimmered like stars, as though she could peer through the sky and penetrate the veil of fate.
However, the authority of fate rested solely with the Three-Eyed Golden Lion. The Silver Dragon King, Gu Yuena, lacked the capability to peer into it. Even the Dragon God hadn't been able to wrest control of fate from the Three-Eyed Golden Lion. So, how could Gu Yuena, a split Silver Dragon King, hope to access such insight into fate?
Yet, despite her inability to perceive fate, Gu Yuena could identify the newcomer based on the dragonic aura surrounding them. This breath evoked a sense of familiarity within Gu Yuena. It was an old subordinate who had followed her prior to her split.
In terms of seniority and combat strength, the current Black-Eyed Golden Dragon King, Di Tian, was but a junior in the presence of these two veteran subordinates. The Dragon Kings of the Nine Great Dragon Clans were comparable to second-level gods during the dragon clan's heyday. Some even rivaled first-level gods in power. However, Di Tian's current cultivation level, while formidable in the human world, would not even warrant acknowledgement in the god realm.
Yet, in this moment, the Silver Dragon King, Gu Yuena, was swamped by an inexplicable sadness, apart from the kindness she felt. She knew all too well how the Fire Dragon King and Ice Dragon King had met their ends—falling victim to a superior force.
These two old subordinates of hers hadn't perished due to betrayal, but because they were outmatched. The Dragon Kings had been rendered powerless against their adversaries. Even if these old subordinates no longer bore grudges against her, Gu Yuena struggled to reconcile her feelings.
Following the fall of the dragon clan, transferring the dragon soul had become a challenge. The Ice Dragon King and Fire Dragon King could not traverse vast distances to seek her out.
The truth was, they could not.
Having lost their dragon bodies, even if they managed to transfer their dragon souls, it would be an arduous process. Even before her split, Gu Yuena's vitality had suffered serious damage. The presence of these two familiar auras indicated one thing: the Ice Dragon King and Fire Dragon King had indeed fallen.
The beings that had arrived were merely their successors. Gu Yuena could envision the desperate expressions of the Ice Dragon King and Fire Dragon King in their final moments. For them to choose the same successor, it must have been a last resort. Sighing softly, Gu Yuena's usually serene voice carried a tinge of emotion.
Soon, she quelled this sentiment. "Di Tian, go and invite him."
She raised her jade wrist, shaping a stone compass. This compass appeared in her hands, and a drop of silver blood fell onto its center. The blood caused the compass to deviate uncontrollably in one direction before settling firmly in place.
"Follow the direction indicated by the blood, and proceed accordingly."
The breath of the Ice and Fire Dragon King was exceedingly faint. Had the recent surge of luck not occurred, Gu Yuena might not have sensed it. Consequently, she would rely on Di Tian, a junior, to gradually locate the direction.
Di Tian transformed into his human form, respectfully accepted the compass from Gu Yuena, and vanished in an instant.
Gu Yuena made her way through the nervous beasts until she reached the Three-Eyed Golden Lion. She raised her jade hand and gently stroked the lion's fur without much concern. The Three-Eyed Golden Lion squinted its golden eyes with satisfaction, enjoying the touch, but then it abruptly shook off her hand, clearly agitated. It was, after all, an imperial beast of noble lineage and wasn't accustomed to such liberties.
Observing this, Gu Yuena chuckled and recalled the time she first met another Emperor Auspicious Beast.
Years... Always cruel...
A few words inexplicably moved her. She waved at the Three-Eyed Golden Lion and proceeded to the Lake of Life. She gradually sank into the water, disappearing from sight.
The remaining beasts exchanged glances, unsure of what to do next. The aura of dominance might have dissipated, but none dared to stand up. The awkward scene persisted until it gradually eased.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Lu Yuan remained oblivious to the unintended consequences of his actions, resulting in numerous trembling beasts suffering from an unnecessary ordeal.
Standing leisurely with Xiao Wu and the others, he watched as the familiar soul beast was pushed closer to death by the sword flowers formed by dozens of sword qi.
The scene was both beautiful and shocking, distinct from his monotonous methods. Chen Xin's approach was aesthetically pleasing, a sentiment shared by Ning Rongrong who was applauding on the sidelines.
Soon, the 1,700-year-old soul beast met its demise under Chen Xin's onslaught. Chen Xin slowly lowered his sword finger, indicating the end of the attack.
Although he didn't comprehend Flender's motives for wanting this auxiliary soul beast, nor did he know who it was intended for, Chen Xin's role was solely to carry out his duty and eliminate the target.
However, he was indifference following his actions.
Watching Ma Hongjun dash forward, deliver a finishing blow, and then sit cross-legged to absorb the soul ring, Chen Xin felt like rolling his eyes.
A peerless genius of the assault system, absorbing the soul rings of auxiliary soul beasts? Was he blind? Or had Flender lost his mind? Such actions would ruin a genius in the making.
To be fair, Chen Xin wasn't the only one thinking this way; most people shared his opinion. However, a few individuals held a contrary perspective. Lu Yuan was one such person, as well as Tang San, who had started to question the meaning of life.
