Time skip

( A month later)

Nix has been hunting down monsters honing his skills after he recovered from fighting the kobold king.

Ready to fight another monster leader nix starts to think of which one to fight.

"There are 4 leaders. Each leader owns a quarter of the city. I killed the kobold king so there are 3 leaders left. There's the lich that commands undead and keeps them around at all times. There's the goblin king which is possibly the smartest of all the leaders. It makes scouting routes and changes them frequently so I would have to fight him at his base unless I whittle down his army. Problem with that is these bastards will pop out the same speed I kill them. Finally There's the unknown leader. I have only seen glimpes of the underlings. I have no idea what this monster is or what it leads so it's an unknown danger. My best bet would be to fight the unknown leader, I'll have to study them first though so I know what I'm facing. I'll wait another month of gathering information on the monsters in the area then make my move.'

------------( another month later)-----------

'It is time. I have gathered a good bit of info to make my move. I still don't know what the leader is but I know what the underlings are. They are bipedal lizards bigger than the average human and can wield any weapon a human can from what I've seen so far. They can also stretch there bodies to unnatural length giving them a terrifying range of attack. From what I know the leader takes one route and brings three other lizards with it. Time to set up the ambush to kill the underlings first before I kill the leader.'

-----------(4 hours later)-------------

' The preparations are done. To kill the underlings I set a trap up that will distract them before they are crushed to death. Then the rest of the preparations are the same as last time except this time I have a brand new magic that will help with the ambush.'

--------------( 1hour later)--------------

The monster leader has arrived along with the other three monsters. One monster behind the leader and the other two to the sides of it.

Suddenly there are three separate noises. The monster leader hisses and the other monsters spread out, but didn't go to where the noises were.

That's when from above them big pieces of stone come flying at them giving them no time to dodge. The monsters were squashed underneath the stones killing them and leaving the leader by himself as planned.

The lone monster hisses and reveals its whole body. Revealing what the leader was. It had a head of a dragon, short stubby arms with three claws on each hand, and legs of a bird.

The monster was ready for an attack from anywhere. Looking around the monster couldn't hear or see anything.

Then suddenly it's shadow moving, nix jumps out of the shadow with his blade infused with magic. Leaving a deep gash on the monsters back.

The monster screeched from the sudden pain and whacked away nix with its tail while turning around.

Nix and the beast are now at a stand off. Both studying the other for any sudden movements.

The beast moved first. In an instant it was in front of nix with its mouth opened wide to take off his head with a single bite.

Nix rolled out of the way and cut the beast leg. But the blade just bounced off.

The beast failing its attack kicked nix away leaving claw marks on his chest from the talons.

The beast ran towards nix tackling him before he could recover. The beast slammed nix into a wall knocking the air out of his lungs.

Nix recovers quickly and jumps out of the way before the monster could bite him. Nix sends a string towards a spear. Nix flings the spear at the beast wounding the beast.

The beast tried to run at nix, but nix throws a stone at the beast. The beast just shakes it off and charges at nix through the dust cloud.

Before nix could react the beast bit into his arm and slammed him to the ground. The beast threw nix up into the air, then slamming him into the ground.

The beast let go of nix's arm to prepare for the final strike. When the beast went to bite nix's head off nix sank into the shadows. The beast wary of where nix would appear was on guard for the slightest change.

Nix appears not to far away from the beast with blood falling down his face. Bleeding out nix looks up.

Nix stretches out his arm as if reaching for something. Suddenly the shadows from all over the battlefield collect into nix's hand.

When all the shadows were collected it changed form into a scythe. Nix's eyes are glowing red with a neutral face. as if nothing has happened.

Nix suddenly appears behind the monster. Everything was silent. The top half of the monsters body started sliding until eventually falling off. The monster was cut in two.

Nix still with the glowing red eyes and impassive face disappears. Nix appears in a empty cave.

Nix drops the scythe. The scythe hits the ground and explodes wrapping nix in a dark cocoon.

Well that's the end of the first volume. I know it was quick but the next volume should be a lot longer with more interactions with people. I stuck at those but I'll try my best to make it good.

by the way for those wondering nix was 13 in the first volume. with the time skip he will be 18 years old

for reference of how he looks like just look at the cover and imagine it younger with shorter hair
