Chapter 8

Edward

"What the hell were you thinking, man?" I open my eyes and his punch was the first ever things I feel like I've felt in a long time. I'm quiet, not sure what to say to him. "Don't tell me you bumped your head and lost your brain, because if you do, I'm the new CEO."

"Fuck off!" I muttered, it came out hoarse than I thought.

"What?" he moved his head nearer.

"Fuck off! Asshole." I saw him straightened, backing away to still on a stool, smirking.

"You won't ask me what happened to you?" he knows me too well to know why I'm not asking him anything. "Don't tell me you crashed your car intentionally? Because I know you can drive in your sleep."

"Did I hurt someone?"

"Thankfully no. but you do have cops on your ass now."

"I know you'll handle it."

"What the fuck man? I didn't know even a boring man like you can be this crazy. I guess love make you do crazy stuff. I'm lucky I don't do love."

I look back at the ceiling. Thinking about Camille still stings. I might have lost control over the steering, but in that moment, I gave up even trying to stop the crash. I gave up trying to follow her. she was running away, which means she didn't love me, at least she did the courtesy to show her real self. I can hate her for that. "What's the news?"

"It's not good, and it's my fault. Turns out, you were right about Rick and those bastards. They were just using you for clout. They are bullshitting about you. I don't think we can go out until it calms down."

"I knew people like they don't change. Do whatever you can to make them pay."

"Don't think about it." suddenly a face flash in front of my face.

"Who saved me?"

"She is right outside, she said she'll wait until she knows you're fine. Her name is Mandy." I almost thought I saw an angel. I don't think I remember her face, but I know she will be beautiful to save me in that situation. She would've been dead in seconds in the crash, but she saved me.

I nodded, I don't want to meet and thank her for what she's done. I know I can't repay, but I'll remember her as long as I'm alive.

Alex left and I waited for him to come back.

"She's gone." He said, "but she left it behind." He gave me a jacket. It was covered in blood.

"Was she hurt?"

"She said she's fine, I didn't insist. She didn't seem badly hurt, but she was quite shaken."

"Tell me you asked her for her information."

"I did, but all that is for when you're better. Until then, I want you to just do as the doctors say."

"Yes! Mom."

"I'm doing damage control tonight. Call me only when it's important. Watch sports or something."

"Who would call you?"

The car chase still buzzed in my head. There are no secrets I would keep from Alex, but this, I think it's better if he doesn't know.

I was driving, I remember I've been calling her at the same time. I remember asking her, begging her to stop the car and marry me. I know my feelings were genuine. I meant what I said. I wanted her to marry me. I still wanted her to marry me. I would've gave her anything in that moment. My pride was the least of it, but she never once thought of my feelings.

"What are you running away if I'm ready to give you whatever you wanted?"

"I don't want your money. I wanted to destroy you. only if I leave will destroy you." she said coldly. That's why I crashed in that pole, I knew it was the only way I was ever going to stop. That was the only way I will ever let myself be stopped. Only death can make me forget her is what I thought in that moment. But right when I took the plunge, right when I let go of the steering, when it was too late to take it back, I think I knew I was making a mistake. I don't hate myself enough to try to end it. but it was too late, so I prayed, I prayed to whoever was listening and the next time I opened my eyes there was an angel right in front of my eyes. there was no one when I crashed on the road, and then there she was dragging me, saving me. I will never forget that face, those green eyes. tears from them dripping on my face. I remember when she hugged me, when she fell on the ground, when she cried so damn hard because she knew she saved me. I refused to believe she wasn't sent to save me. I will meet her as soon as I'm outta here.

If Camille doesn't love me, why would I have to keep loving her? why would I have to destroy myself to give her what she wanted?

**

"Did you find her?" I don't know what's going on but it's like my angel is actually an angel, and she's disappeared from the face of the earth. Almost like she never even existed, I would've believed it actually if Alex hasn't seen her.

"She's nowhere? Mandy Knowles probably wasn't her name."

"What about the business card?"

"There is no place called La Forte. I don't understand why she has to lie."

"You've seen her, make a sketch or something. Please find her."

"I don't understand your obsession with her. like, let it go, we have a million thing to worry about. Your company's stocks for one. I've don't all the damage control I can, but Rick is a famous reporter. I don't know what he's got against you."

"You don't know many things, maybe that's why we're friends. You remember when he told you your girlfriend was fucking him?"

"Hmm."

"I made him tell you. maybe he's the type who can't let go of grudges. Now go, and find my angel for me. I'm alive because of her, and I have a hunch that she'll be the reason I'm going to live."

"Aye! Aye! Captain."
