This is the story of how Emery Walters became whom he was supposed to be.<br><br>I knew I was male at an early age, something that was a societal no-no in the 1950s and still is in parts of the country today. Burying my male identity, I strove to be the best woman possible. But after raising my four wonderful children from two debilitating marriages, I found myself alone and nearly penniless. That was when Emery asserted his identity.<br><br>Life became better with the shift from female to male, a third marriage, and a wife who, herself, transitioned from male to female.

I was very vulnerable of course, and Bill was a former Navy Seal, UDT. I mistook male achievement level for success. In short, I trusted he’d be able to take care of me and let me live safely under the radar and his wing. I forgot about money. I knew nothing about alcoholism.

We made arrangements to sell the house and move. Bill wanted us to be near his father for a while. My older son was on his own in college, and Amy had just graduated from high school. She decided to come with us to Arizona but moved back to Michigan, later. As it turned out, the court allowed me to move with Laura, to Arizona. Frank demanded that Laura visit him, even though she was terrified of flying. The first time she went back, his supervision of her was so poor that she ran away one night and almost got in some serious trouble next to a 7-11, but that’s her story, not mine.
