Starting from where he had been Feng Biao focused on the now evaporating memories of his experience. When he was Indra he had been on some sort of palace? On a mountain, he was sure of that.
No, it was more like a fortress, Indra was a king but he was not the king of that place. That place had just been somewhere Indra had sworn to protect. Feng Biao scrunched his eyes trying to remember the name of it.
"It's useless I'm wasting time."
Yes, every second caused the memories to deteriorate, perhaps he could get the name of that place, but ultimately that would mean he'd forget the rest of the experience in the meantime. It was better to focus on what he could remember.
He had seen Indra after his prime but before his fall. When he still could have changed, when things could have been different. Despite what he had lost he could have still been great.
"That's weird, why do I know that? Wait, how much do I remember about Indra?"
Focusing deeply on who Indra was Feng Biao came up with an answer, that was recorded on his PDS.
"Indra climbed to greatness from the bottom. A one of a kind prodigy. When he reached his prime he traded something."
Feng Biao was sure something had been traded but the exact identity of the object was unknown to him. All he knew was that when he had been Indra it had taken place after the trade. From there the memories got even fuzzier, all Feng Biao could reach was that Indra's eventual fate wasn't happy.
"Got it all down?" Hunter asked Feng Biao who was lying motionless in bed.
"Yeah, so why aren't we told that's gonna happen beforehand? Oh, and why did I need to record it?"
"I dunno," Hunter said a bit perplexed himself, "why don't they give all Marked access to the optimal training techniques? It took you a month to reach Ascended Mortal, but for those bigwigs, it only takes a week. Hell, I heard there's a technique that can make you reach it in a day."
"It's just sort of annoying," Feng Biao said, a bit exasperated with the secretive nature of something he had expected to be more open to him after joining the HCF.
"I feel you, anyways to answer your second question, well this is kind of a spoiler are you sure you wanna know?"
"Yeah," Feng Biao said as he nodded, "I"m tired of secrets."
"You might get a meeting with your Divinity," Hunter said extremely excitedly.
"Like in-person?" Feng Biao said a bit confused.
"No, but the actual meeting depends. It's called Contact, and it's pretty damn important if it happens."
"Oh that, yeah I remember Tang Ruolan mentioned something about that. I didn't really get it."
"Then ask a question?" Hunter asked quizzically.
"Too embarrassed," Feng Biao sighed.
"Tell me how you remember it and I'll fill in the holes."
"Contact is that thing where a Divinity talks to you? Umm, it varies from person to person? Not sure how really."
Nodding his head Hunter spoke, "You're close. Basically, when you reach the Divine Mortal your Divinity can give you a call, that's called Contact."
"Biao, my Divinity gave me a call. I studied his personality based on the dream I saw of his life. And ya know what happened?"
"No," Feng Biao said as he shook his head.
"The fucking horse laughed at me," Hunter said while hanging his head, "I mean, as close as a horse can laugh."
"Why?"
"Apparently, I wasn't man enough to speak to a fucking horse."
"Your Divinity is who again?" Feng Biao said while tilting his head.
"Sleipnir a horse. A prideful one to boot. It literally wouldn't even listen to me because I hadn't, what did it say again?" Hunter said while scratching his head.
"Oh, that's right," Hunter said with a snap of his finger, "I have no interest in a child pretending warrior."
"What did he mean by that?" Feng Biao asked.
"I think he meant I'm not like a real warrior? I dunno, I'm not really interested in being one either. Anyways, the point of my rant there was that even if you write down all you can from the dream your Divinity might not want to speak to you just because."
"Just because?"
"Yeah, tons of Divinities like mine just berate their Marked when they reach Divine Mortal. Heck, some don't even bother Contacting their Marked."
"So what's the benefit?"
"Ahh, yeah, if your Divinity takes a shine to you they can influence what Divine Abilities you develop. As I said, takes more than being a smooth talker and having knowledge of your Divinity. At the end of the day, it's kinda down to how you've been living your life."
"I see..." Feng Biao said now a bit less excited for the prospects of a Contact with his Divinity.
"Hey wait, Hunter, did you see your Divinity?"
"During the Contact? No, only in the dream."
"Gotcha," Feng Biao said realizing he had one important thing to check.
"Hey wait!" Hunter said as Feng Biao closed his eyes.
"Hmm?"
"Aren't you gonna ask me what my dream was?"
"No? I didn't tell you what mine was," Feng Biao said as he raised an eyebrow.
"Shit you're right, well tell me what happened."
"Alright well I was Indra, I think, and-"
