Chapter 10

Lucas

The mall where I found a job is enormous and full of lights and perfumes. Obviously it’s also full of sounds, and even if they don’t reach my brain, I invent them, associating the vibrations with images that evoke happiness or sadness, anger or apathy, depending on the moment.

It’s been a little more than two months since I started working here and I like it. I like that I’m finally able to look after myself, support myself, able to buy unnecessary things if I want to. I don’t make a lot, but it’s enough to pay for a room, to eat every single day, and to even spend frivolously on things I don’t really need. I work in a bookshop. I couldn’t have found a better place. It was what I always dreamed about. I do everything: clean, tidy up the shelves, manage the little warehouse, and prepare the gift boxes, especially now, during the Christmas season.
