Scene Three! A Concern......

~Jericho~

SEPTEMBER 14

It had been nearly a week since I saw Amelia on the bridge. I spent last week trying to convince coach to let me go and when I finally got to her she cried and told me how much she'd miss me, it was a really weird week, but I'm ready to commit to 'Operation Woo The Angel.' This week I was fully committing to the drama club to be able to get closer to my objective: Make Amelia feel the same as I did. It was hard trying to get my roommates on board they said it was too soon to try to get her to like me back because I had met her just 2 weeks ago; but eventually with lots of pouting, begging, and whining they finally decided to help me! I started thinking of ways to get closer to Amelia when I heard shuffling and people getting up. CLASS ENDED ALREADY?! I screamed in my head. I had begun to daydream/ think when Mr. Covern started talking about how the author of a book we're reading wrote that the door was blue and how they wanted that to be significant and stuff. I quickly stood up and packed everything in my backpack. When I stepped out of the room I saw Kyong-tae was leaning against the wall next to the door waiting for me. When she noticed me coming out of the door she looked up from her phone and smiled "Hey loser" I rolled my eyes

"Hey Kyong-tae how was your day?" she shrugged

"Same as usual. Ready to head to drama?" She asked, I nodded and began walking out.

"Let's go"

When we entered the auditorium it was much brightener than the last time I was here. The audience lights were on and the stage lights off. "They're probably in the back," Kyong-tae said walking to the side of the stage where the stairs are. "Behave yourself, woman." She whispered as we walked into the backstage room. I gave her a deadpan face and followed her in. There were around 15 people in the big room, but no Amelia. Half of them were painting and the others were just sitting down on their phones. Kyong-tae walked up to a guy who was painting a piece of wood black on the floor "Jarred where's Amelia?" Kyong-tae asked him. The guy looked up from the ground.

"She's downstairs." He responded turning back to the floor and continued to paint. I didn't know this auditorium had a basement. Kyong-tae began to head toward a door in the side and when she opened it there was a set of stairs.

" I didn't know the auditorium had a basement," I said heading down the stairs. Kyong-tae shook her head.

"It's not a basement it's a classroom connected to the Auditorium. The drama teacher requested the room so that actors could use the space to change and keep their stuff." She said opening the door that was at the end of the stairs. It was a average spaced room, it had what I think was a makeup area because there was a long mirror and makeup kits on the desk. There were also lots of cabinets and a door that said bathroom on it. Kyong-tae led me to the classroom that was connected to the room we were in. It was longer and wider and it had lots of desks. I spotted Amelia sitting down and chatting with some girl. The girl looked like she was into Amelia cause she kept getting closer than she needed to and kept touching Amelia. How rude not even minding the personal space of MY love. I frowned once I realized how dumb that sounded. I mean that's pretty rude not thinking of people's personal space... not that I own Amelia or anything. Amelia noticed us and smiled.

"Hey guys!" She beamed. I nearly went blind from all the light radiating from her beauty. I waved and Kyong-tae stopped in front of the desk they were in.

"Hey Amelia. We're reporting for duty." Kyong-tae said. Amelia smiled

"Great! You'll be in charge of the guys today Jin. Mrs. Spring asked Jackie and I for help directing the actors while she went to a meeting. so I'll be busy doing that." I frowned sightly I wanted to hang out with Amelia. Kyong-tae nodded

"Cool cool" Amelia turned to me.

"Sorry I won't be able to help you out on your first day in drama but I'm sure the guys upstairs will treat you well." She said warmly I nodded and a uncomfortable silence emerged. At least for me anyways.

"Alright! We'll get going." Kyong-tae said no doubt noticing the awkward feel. Amelia nodded and we turned to walk out. Right when we were about to go into the door leading to the back room, the girl Jackie called out to us.

"Wait!" We turned back and faced them, Kyong-tae asked,

"What's up?" She had a little box of blueberry muffins on the table.

"I wanted to offer you guys a muffin! I made them in my dessert course" We have culinary

courses?????

She turned to Amelia and offered one. It kinda looked like Amelia hesitated for a second but then she smiled gracefully and grabbed one.

"Thank you kindly Jackie." Jackie smiled and offered one to us. I'd be rude not to accept her hard work.

"Yeah thanks!" I grabbed one and Kyong-tae did the same, thanking her.

"Better get up there" I said excusing myself. Amelia and Jackie nodded.

As we walked out I heard Amelias angelic laughter and I flinched. "Your plan terribly failed." Kyong-tae said half whispering so that Amelia couldn't hear. I groaned and clucked my muffin.

"It's never as easy as it is in the movies!" I said whisper-yelling. Kyong-tae chuckled as we went up the stairs

"What exactly do you expect? Doves flying when you confess? Choirs singing when she looks at you? Glowing when she laughs? C'mon Jer. It's not a movie." She said patting me on the back.

"I know that." I said huffing and pouting. "If only gay people wore something to show the world they were gay and we wouldn't have to be so confused with straight people!" I said. Kyong-tae looked at me her face scrunched up

"Like the Jews that wore the stars of David?" She said seriously. My brain stopped working I tried defending my statement but all that would come out were stutters. She hit me in the neck "plus it wouldn't work. What if people hadn't figured that out yet, and what if they didn't want to come out. Think. Jericho." I sighed she's right it was a stupid idea.

"You're right" I confessed. She shook her head

"Let's get to work."

After we finished out muffins, Kyong-tae assigned me to paint a long piece of wood black. I began thinking how maybe I've been trying too much. I had sorta figured out her schedule so that I could bump into her more but there wasn't any luck. Maybe I had been pushing boundaries... maybe I haven't been respectful to Amelias space. I started thinking of the possibility that she was straight. If she's straight then this is all useless. I thought. All of these passes are nothing if she's straight. Maybe she's not even thinking about anyone like that. I sighed I should probably stop bothering her. I looked down my eyes forming tears I couldn't hold back. maybe she isn't my Destiny. Maybe I'm stupid. It's been a while since I've been interested in a girl. It's been awhile since I've been in a relationship. The last relationship I was in.... was terrible. I couldn't breath. Maybe it was my fault.

Maybe I don't get to have a love life.
