Chapter 5 -- Blackmail

Lex and Linda where equally confused, "What do you mean she should be dead?" Lex did not hesitate to ask.

Linda nodded her head in agreement with Lex's question

"I have not taught you this in class yet but i will tell you now so you can understand my point , Humans who have awakened the power of elements are called Cultivators , the energy we use to manipulate the elements is called 'Force' .

Basically all humans above the age of 18 have already awakened their powers, but not everyone can be called a 'Cultivator' .You gain the title of Cultivator after you train or Cultivate your element to the second rank. All adults you can see around are only in rank 1. Very few people have the talent needed to successfully Cultivate

As you have probably figured it out, I am a Cultivator , i was born with more force than usual and i had the talent to go beyond the first rank"

Lex felt a headache approaching, he was trying to get as much information as possible but he missed some of the things said by Ms Laura.

"To cut the long story short, Linda I am a rank 3 Cultivator , my power is leagues above the normal human. The fact that you where able to get that close to me during the episode shows that you also have the talent to become a Cultivator" Miss Laura explained

"Have you ever experienced some things you could not explain recently?" she asked

Lex recalled seeing Linda's hair change colour, but he chose to keep that information to himself for the meantime.

"No ma'am, i cant say i have" Linda muttered after some time "But I'm still confused , what does this mean exactly?"she immediately asked

Miss Laura ignored Linda's question and followed up with one of her own" What are your parent's elements ?"she asked

"Earth and Water"

Laura furrowed her brows as a look of confusion appeared on her expression. '_But how is that possible_'she thought '_I could have sworn i felt my 'Force' resonate with her ,she has to have a wind aptitude im sure of it_'

A knock on the door disturbed Ms Laura's train of thought. A senior student with spiky red hair entered before addressing her .

"Miss Laura you have been summoned to the headmaster's office"

"Thank you Simon, i will be right over "

Simon promptly left and Ms Laura excused herself from her two students.

"You guys can go to your break, i will see you after two hours...if i don't get fired"She whispered the finishing lines so they would not be heard.

Miss Laura walked to the headmaster's office and before she could even knock, a deep voice came from inside "Come in Laura" , Laura took a deep breath and pushed open the door

She entered to see an old looking blue haired man sitting behind a large table filled with disorganized books and paper.

The headmaster seemed angry as he jotted down something on a piece of paper. The speed at which the pen moved hinted something out of the ordinary.

"Shut the door behind you and sit down" he said in an commanding tone. Mr Brown was always known to be the no nonsense kind of leader but today Ms Laura noticed that something was definitely bothering him. She could even sense the 'Force' inside him trying to escape his control.

She quickly sat down after a quick "yes sir".

"Laura , the supreme commander is started to apply more pressure on our school. How ready are your students?"

"Definitely not yet ready for anything crucial sir , why are you asking me this did something happen?"Laura asked,

Mr Brown gave a deep sigh "Laura we have to fast track the whole curriculum, i want you to teach those kids everything they need to know, today. The awakening ceremony is happening tomorrow and the students are getting retrofitted with systems the same day they awaken their elements."

Laura stared at the headmaster , and when she saw that her superior was serious , her aloof expression turned to anger.

"How can you do that !? The system project is not ready for human application yet! ." Laura was livid, her eyes turned a shade of green , but this time she was in control of her actions.

"Laura don't you dare raise your voice at me, I am your commanding officer know your place." Mr Brown slowly and calmly said.

"With all due respect sir , you want to experiment on my kids , i can't allow that to happen. All the test subjects used for the system project either died or went insane, and those were adults.My children don't stand a chance most of them will die! I care about them" Ms Laura said with a bit of self restraint in her voice.

"All the classes are doing the same thing , yours is not special and where was this care when you decided to unleash rank 3 'Force' on them anyway?" Mr Brown snickered.

Laura was not aware that the school knew about her little incident. She figured that there was a hidden camera or something in her class because she was confident her kids would not report her to the school.

Before she could defend herself Mr Brown continued.

"The truth is Laura if you contest this development i can just fire and replace you, you violated school policy, those students will get their systems tomorrow and whether or not you will be here depends entirely on you" he threatened. " Oh and next week they will be deployed to sector 001".

Laura had no choice but to agree . If she left, the students would definitely die , she was the leading scientist behind the development of systems so she knew the danger. Maybe if she was the one looking over them she could minimise the losses.

Ms Laura left the headmaster's office after discussing the final details of the school's plan.

"Students, plans have changed" Ms Laura didn't even greet her students after marching into the classroom.

She waved her hands and three dozen small blue pills flew out of seemingly nowhere and landed in the hands of every student.

"Eat them , those are rank 2 memory enhancers, i need you to retain everything you are about to learn"
