Chapter 42 -- It worked!!

"I'm sorry i couldn't protect you" Led cried as he held Adam's limp body in his arms. Xen ( Lex's father ) had to watch Lex cry from inside his mind for the last 10 minutes but he didn't enterrupt his son's grieving process. Lex and Adam had been friends since they were babies.

Xen had also gone through Lex's memories and discovered how much Adam truly meant to his son.

{Lex ?} he said in a low voice.

{...} Lex did not reply and continued crying, although at this point his eyes had run out of tears.

{There is a way to save him} Xen's words managed to snap Lex out of the depression he was probably slowly sinking into.

{I will do anything} Lex stated with conviction which his eyes also displayed. Xen did not doubt that even if he told Lex to murder someone for Adam he would not hesitate.

{When i was in the military} Xen started {There was a project i was working on besides the systems. You see I really wanted to help the human race fight against the elves but obviously my dragon tribe would not help. To them the war was just like a game between lower beings. So I started developing a serum that would give humans the same strength as magical beasts, physically that is}

{Will this serum bring Adam back ?} Lex asked. Not even wondering if they where any side effects or if the serum was dangerous as Adam was already dead.

{Theoretically it should work because in order for the serum to fuse correctly, the patient had to be in a state where the heart is not beating. To simulate this, I made a special drug which could stop the heart for 24 hours without killing the subject. But in this case we don't need the drug since Adam is already dead.}

{Where can I find the serum ?} Lex questioned, knowing fully well that this was a long shot but having nothing to lose.

{It's in your blood}

{What!?} Lex expressed his surprise.

{Humans are power hungry idiots Lex, and unfortunately for me I figured that out a little too late. The military wanted to mass produce my Dragonite serum and force every able bodied human to be infused with it. The Dragonite serum had a 50% mortality rate and the military was prepared to wipe out half of the human race just to gain power. Even if this could have stopped the Elven war, it was never good to build a future over the corpses of others.}

{In order to make sure this never happened, I injected you with the serum the day you where born. I knew it definitely wouldn't kill you, it would have either made you stronger or it would just lay dormant in your blood, and it turns out the second option came true}

{What I didn't predict though was the serum entering your blood during your breakthrough. However when it entered your bloodstream, it didn't get absorbed into your muscles like it should. Instead it directly fused with your blood and bone marrow. So now your bones naturally produce the serum with your blood}

Something clicked inside Lex's mind at that point {So this is what you and mom where killed for ?} Lex asked

{Yes the people who killed us where looking for you. Somehow the military found out that the serum is inside you} Xen answered.

Lex felt a deep hatred for the military inside his very soul. Though he still had more questions like how did he escape the military that day and how come they have not come for him, considering he was a student in one of their schools. However he didn't have the time to ask Xen those questions as he still had a brother to hopefully save.

{What do i need to do ?} he asked his father.

Lex, following Xen's instructions, cut his own palm with his sharp teeth and suspended it on top of Adam's mouth. He moved Adam's lips a little so the blood could go in.

Then Lex also cut a new small would on Adam's forearm and again made a few drops of his blood drip inside.

{Wait...that's it ?} Lex asked confused, he thought the procedure would be something overcomplicated and well

{Yah that's it } Xen replied with a light chuckle {Originally the person had to take the Dragonite serum in pill form to go into the digestive system, then get injected with the liquid serum for the circulatory system, which will distribute to the muscles }

Lex narrowed his eyes as he thought about something. {Wait, why does the serum need to be in the digestive system ? } he asked.

{Well.....if we are successful, Adam will be a magical beast, well part magical beast, and what do magical beasts eat ?}

Then the realization hit Lex like a freight train.

{What!! no definitely not we are not eating people} he panicked.

{Hahahaha no son don't worry at all you won't eat people no} Xen replied after a good long laugh, easing Lex's concerns and prompting him to calm down {You will eat magical beasts instead}

Lex's eyes went wide, he was about to complain when a sound reached his sensitive ears.

Lex could not believe his own eyes. Adam's giant wounds where closing at a very fast pace. So fast that he could hear and see the flesh on his chest coming together. It started with the fractures on his ribs which recoverd in seconds, then came the chest muscles before the skin closed, only leaving the torn uniform as evidence of the injury.

"Did it work??" Lex voiced. He had forgotten that the recipient of that question was in his head.

{Father did it work !?} He shouted once more as he began to shake Adam's dead body. Lex's eyes had recovered as evidenced by the new stream of tears rolling down his face.

Suddenly a sound reached Lex's ears. Unlike the last time it was not the sound of Adam's wounds healing. It was instead a sound which made Lex inwardly celebrate as his tears changed to ones of joy. Lex put his head on Adam's chest and confirmed it, his heart was really beating, although very slowly.

{It worked !? } Xen shouted inside Lex's mind. One could not mistake the surprise in his voice {Ahem... i mean of course it worked i knew it would work obviously}

Lex rolled his eyes at how shameless his father was, but he could care less at this point. His brother was alive and that's all that mattered.

"Father why is he not waking up " Lex asked.

{His new dragon body has reverted to the first rank, while his 'Force' is in the second. His body needs to evolve first for him to wake up}

"And when will that happen?"

{I am not certain, however it will definitely happen in the next 24 hours. You need to stay with him during the whole time if you don't want to make up another fake disease in case he evolves in front of people} Xen said as he tried to suppress a laugh.

{Oh yeah i wanted to ask this but didn't have the time to before. I was going through your memories here and I found out that you also told Linda about the situation. Do you really trust her ?} Xen asked.

Before Lex could even answer, he heard two rather loud bangs behind him, like something heavy falling from a great height.

"Lex !!!" a voice called

Lex didn't need to turn in order to discern the origin of that voice.
