Rebellious Wolf

London Vera

"I can't believe this!" I groan, "It should've ended by now! This rebellion has gone on for far too long." I spin in my chair bored. I'm stuck inside because of this rebellion and I'm missing my palace. I glare at the peeling blue and yellow striped wallpaper on my walls. The room I'm in is my office. It has rotting shelves lining all of its walls. Weathered books are randomly placed on them and there's even one leaning on a vase. The grayed carpet is rotting and lifting off of the wooden boards beneath. This place is so rickety that I'm worried I'll fall through the floor. This is no place for a prince. Though at the very least,

I feel rage build up within me as I recall my mother's test.

"My children," She beckons. "I have found it difficult to chose a crown prince amongst you. As such I will be testing you all. You will be sent to the 4 outer cities of the kingdom, and you will develop them! Whoever does best will be rewarded."

Then I were wooshed out of the kingdom here. The eastern village, Fenria. An apocalyptic hell hole. I've been here 2 weeks and already have dealt with 3 rebellions.

This one's been a week.

"Kai," I shout. He walks into the room. "Fetch our cloaks, were going out tonight."

"Should I fetch your mask as well?" He asks. I respond with a nod and he leaves. At the least I can take comfort in a stroll with my guard. Kai is a young assassin, and my friend. He has dark skin and gray hair that slowly turns red at the roots. His hair is swept back and shows his face perfectly. He has grayish blue eyes. He looks gorgeous but, he's unapproachable. This is because he suffers from RBF. The funny thing is that most assassins tend to be shifters. But, unlike me he isn't. He's just a plain old human.

A rock shatters the window behind me snapping me out of my thoughts and I quickly leave the room. Most of the house has been refurbished since we got here but some parts like the office weren't in the budget. I walk down a set of stairs. I touch the railing, not feeling disgusted for the first time since I entered the office. The railing is made of oak and the wood is now everywhere renovated. I feel slightly delighted. Kai is waiting for me at the door and I walk towards him. When we get to the door Kai hands me my cloak and mask. I quickly put them on, wanting to escape the house. It feels oddly great to leave the house. My mom didn't want me to leave this house ever. Just like the palace.

I exit the house with Kai following slightly behind. Now that were outside I kind of want to go back inside. But, I can't. I would be betraying my pride. So reluctantly I continue on. I pass several stores, all of which have shattered windows, or are boarded up. I hold on tightly to my cloak, not wanting to be noticed. The stone paths don't look good either. There's grass and dandelions growing into the numerous cracks on the ground. We end up passing a flower shop. I look into the windows half expecting to see dead flowers, but sincerely hoping not to. What I see is instead an indoor garden. Roses, daisies, chrysanthemums, and a bunch of flowers I don't know are growing. Compared to the rest of the town this shop looks like heaven. Half tempted to go back home, I stop. Then I come to a realization.

The mob is gone. The week long rebellion is over. I know I should feel happy but, now I'm worried. I hear something off in the distance. I look at Kai, who hasn't said a thing and start to walk in that direction. As we get closer, I can make out the words.

"Newly caught shifter, appears to be a Fox, selling for 10 copper!"

Out of curiosity I start to sprint towards a small market. I stop out breath at the first booth. I hunch over gasping and feeling envy towards Kai, who looks as if catching up to me was a cake walk. By the time I catch my breath, I hear the price apparently rose to 13 copper. At that moment I realize it's an auction. I follow the announcers voice to the stage. Standing there is a boy. He had charcoal hair, and Amethyst colored eyes. Like most male slaves he's wearing old shorts and no shirt. He's bound by rotting rope and I'm not sure how it can hold him. The fox looks terrified. His face is screaming for help. I look at Kai and he pulls out my coin purse. In it is 40 copper coins, and several silvers. I then place my bid.

"16 copper," I announce. Everyone looks at me and the auctioneer counts down.

"Going once, going twice, Sol-"

Before he can finish someone else bids. "17 copper!" As such I raise.

"19 copper!" I bid. this time the auctioneer finishes and I have Kai get my prize. Up next comes a hare shifter." Having lost my interest I pay the auctioneer and turn to walk away.

"Wait," The fox begs. "Please buy him too." I look at him and feel a strange urge to deny him, simply for the fun of it. "I'll pay you back," He says. "Just please." Still not convinced he continues. "I'll pay back double what you pay."

I buy the hare and the fox and him hug clearly happy not to have been separated. Kai and I walk back to the house and once inside, I turn to the both of them. "We should introduce ourselves right?" I ask. "I'm London," Then pointing at Kai. "He's my guard Kai. And I own you two now."

The hare speaks next. "I'm Buddy." He says. I turn towards the fox. He's obviously trying to calm down. Buddy sees this and hugs him. He clearly calms down and sighs.

"Thank you Buddy," He says. He then turns to me. "Nice to meet you, I'm Arche
