CHAPTER THREE

Two years later.

"Chairman Park!" The attending doctor placed both hands on the frail man's chest and pressed hard in a last minute attempt to save his life. 

Nurses and other doctors along with interns raced around the ward trying to get things done and try to extend his life a bit. 

Roger got down from the car and rushed into the magnificent edifice that housed the hospital. He hastened his steps while his bodyguards also fell into line behind him and they rushed in after him. 

He approached the elevator and saw that there were several people in line to get into it. 

At first, he thought of using his influence and power to get into it, but making a quick decision, he thought otherwise against his ego and pride. 

Making a quick turn towards the stairs, he leapt on the first and began to ascend them two steps at a time. His guards followed his lead and a few minutes later,they were at the top floor of the hospital. 

The top floor was the reserved floor for the VVIP and creme de la crème of the society. The best doctors and medical staff of the hospital were always assigned to work on this floor due to the exclusive identity of the patients admitted into the wards on the floor. 

It was on this floor that Will Park, the Executive Chairman of Crates, a company with huge interests in logistics and real estate was admitted in for Lung Cancer. 

He'd had a long removed about two years ago but the disease metamorphosed and began to attack the other lung. It was due to the expertise of his attending doctor he was able to last so long.

He walked into his father's exclusive ward and found the place in disarray. Doctors and nurses running helter skelter in order to save the patient lying on the blue hospital bed. 

Several directors from the company were also present in the hospital room. He could also see his stepmother where she stood a little afar off from the rest but close enough to his father's hospital bed. 

He carefully stepped forward and a path automatically opened for him as he approached his father's bed with a sombre expression on his face. 

He gottothe bed and held his father's hand which was free. The other hand had an IV inserted into it. 

The doctors began to retreat when they noticed his condition had stabilised a bit. The attending physician adjusted a few knobs on the bed and then, respectfully made his way out of the room. 

Roger raised his head and made eye contact with Hales, one of the directors from the company. The latter coughed dryly and approached the Chairman lying on the bed. 

"Chairman Park, you're yet to make a will. You have to name your successor. " He spoke gently while vowing sheepishly. 

Roger's stepmother and Will Park's current wife, Nancy Park, raised her head sharply. Her face was filled with tears and the mascara from her makeup formed two lines on her beautiful face, which gave her an eerie look. 

She thought she had difficulty understanding Hales and was about to ask him what he meant when the other directors including the Vice President began to echo Hales words. 

"Yes, Chairman Park. You need to name your successor. We can't leave the Chairman's seat being vacant for too long." 

" You don't have to worry about anything, Chairman Park. Roger here is very capable and has been managing the company well in these few months since you have been down."

"Infact, we have an increase of 50.8% in our profits for this quarter as against the last quarter." Hales echoed and the other directors all hummed positively in reply. 

Roger had a smug smile on his face. Yes! He was finally getting there. No one would dispute his position no more in the family. They would all look up to him because he would have power in his hands. 

Nancy felt she was going through a bad dream. She looked towards the group of men here and realised Richard wasn't among them. Understanding dawned on her. 

They must have excluded him when they were coming to visit the chairman. They had already planned what they intended to do and knowing he was faithful to her,had excluded him. 

She moved closer to her husband and saw he was trying to raise his hand. The other hand was still clutched gently in Roger's have and the directors were too busy fanning the flames to Roger's succession to notice that the sick man was trying to get their attention. 

"Keep quiet everyone." She bellowed out in rage. The men turned to look at her with disbelief on their faces. 

"What.."

"Please, pay attention. The chairman is trying to say something." Hales was trying to say something but she interrupted him to pass her point. 

They all fell silent and watched as Will Park tried to sit up. Baccy rushed to his side and assisted him on one side while Roger did the same on the other side. 

"Roger.. , when Chris b..b..becomes an adult, y..y..you have to hand over the company to him and guide him into becoming a successful CEO. 

You'll ruin the company... I...I... left a.. a secret note behind for that." He stammered out and then became limp. 

The machine connected to him began to beep loudly and son the spikes in the lines on the monitor became flat. Everyone rushed to his side. 

The doctor who had been standing by the door rushed back into the room and grabbed the defillibrators. He tried all he could but none of it worked out. 

"I'm sorry but Chairman Park could'nt make it. I'm sending his body to the morgue now." He told them and walked out of the room. 

Although Roger's face showed sorrow at the death of his father, but his heart was glad and sore at the same time. 

His father never loved him nor trusted him. He only had eyes for his step younger brother. Even with his last breath,he still wanted him to beco

me the company's CEO when he became an adult.
