The End?

Well, even if she had listened, she wouldn't have been much better off.

Reminiscing about the past, she took another few steps and cut another charon's head off. It took a few seconds - in her perspective at least - for the blood to start spurting out.

She knew that she couldn't keep this up. Slowly but surely, her energy was running out. And there were still thousands more to come. Or was it millions? It seemed like there was no end, she had run out of numbers to count the monsters she had killed. Or had just lost count, and stopped bothering. Why would she bother? What did it matter now, counting the cores that she had lost, how much stronger she could've gotten. If only she could turn back time, a little bit. Just a few days, even a few hours would be fine. Minutes wouldn't help. Minutes. Only… 77 left.

'Does it have to end this way? After all this, all I've done. At least I had fun doing it. Most of it. Oh, this one's a bit stronger'

A giant monster roared at her. It looked like an oversized earless tiger, but blue with red blotches, two golden 'V's sticking out of it's back, and twenty-five eyes. Wait no, twenty-six. Twenty-seven? It was… growing more eyes?

'Whatever, that doesn't matter.' She stabbed it in the throat, and it died.

She talked out loud to no one "One more down, a few million more to go!"

Sighing softly, she remembered another time she said that.
