He launched forward, his shoulder slamming into Brooker’s chest to drive him back against the opposite wall. Marcus raked at his back, but this time, the pain was welcome. It reminded him he was still there to fight, and Gideon embraced the sensation before turning his gratitude back outward.
Gideon aimed for Marcus’s ribs and hit him several times, each blow sharp and direct. His bones snapped beneath Gideon’s assault, but it wasn’t quite enough to stop Marcus. He was fighting wildly now, the precision gone from his actions. Occasionally he would hit Gideon with his claws, but he barely felt it. Once, Marcus tried to bite his throat, but Gideon fended him off with a pointed jab across the nose.
“Told you he’d come.” Jesse’s voice from behind him. The words were mushy, but the emotion in them was clear.
