Chapter 12

There was a poetry teacher I used to like a lot. She was grieving the loss of a child that at that time I was not aware of. After our class I went to her and asked her 'Are you alright?' to which she told me that she was. I told her that 'I want to hug her!' She leaned and I hugged her and said, 'Miss you will be alright! I am there for her!' She felt much better after that and was pleased to have me attending to her home with my grandma in the evenings quite frequently. To her we were like any common people around town but to most of the people we were just Gipsy. They thought we were dark or evil and capable of bad fortune when irritated.

That was pretty good for us, the curses, the spiritual connection, the fortune-telling. It was all true and it saved us from being hunted by people. Though some of them detested us but the terror kept them at bay. And in my experience, I could just naturally read energies of all sorts. I believed it to be normal. I could not differentiate, till my grandma taught me about what were the ones common to non-drifters and the /Gipsy. I was surprised to learn that and also that how many of the choices in the right direction came from the wrong decision we took in life. I just laughed it out, but it was just what man is, a being capable of fatal liabilities.

So, then I pursue the occupation of my dearest teacher Ophelia, she encouraged me to follow this path. I knew I did not find it that interesting, but I was pretty much absorbed when I continued it. I used to love seeing the faces of all the children, not only could I read their casual gestures and expression, but I could also see the trouble that they brought through my second sight. I took each case personally. I spent most of my young days in the town may be seven springs after my graduation. During my stay at the school, it became one of the most popular schools in England. We were the first ones to tend to their mental development as we provided the counselling service, and I was the head there. They paid me well and my 'Ma' settled in with, I insisted her to stay. The worsening health didn't allow her to travel or to walk actively. So, I used to take her to slow walks around the town we stayed in. The nearby mountains too were among her beloved placed to visit. She was my first and last love till she remained with me. She though believed it to be a foolish advice in her younger years, but she repeated that I should follow my heart.

The people in that town used to visit her and ask about their lives. She was the fortune-telling elder of the town as they named her. She was still at her best in the ability she was gifted. She used to tell me about the second sight that was a gift by the spirits and how it developed in the most pure, true and innocent of the people. She had visions too, that was something I developed too. I thought that I had become the part of the non-drifter's community in spirit and heart, but it wasn't the case. I was a drifter and after her death it started telling fortunes too. People used to visit me more often than they used to visit my granny.

I was irritated and couldn't even grieve well. I had my job and then this side engagement. This made life more troubled. I couldn't process it. I had enough money to start a life of my elder, but I didn't find it in me to dare to. I settled in life of non-drifters. So, I imposed a rule for all the visitors in my house, fortune-telling sessions only once a week! People were annoyed and angry at me. 'What could I do! I needed to be alone to feel myself! I kept my Na's sapphire amulet in my purse and left to the jeweler shop. I queried about it to be made in a neck. And the man affirmed. There and then a tall man came inside, and I was leaving, his broad shoulder struck my arm, and I lurched a little. He apologized and asked me to look at the arm, but I insisted that it is just a little bruise may be. I could tell his shoulders were as sharp as daggers.

I laughed a little as I left as it never happened to me in life. The shop was quite small and that led to it. That I thought to myself. The following week I went to a fair the Angles had around town to cheer the adults and children alike. Miss Ophelia joined me; she was a bit aged now, but she was as energetic as I was. She was quite glad that I was being myself once again. She kept a good check on me after my granny. I looked at the crowd amusingly and spotted a familiar face. I told miss Ophelia to look at him but be discreet. 'There he is, the one from the jeweler shop who jolted into me, accidently!' Miss. Ophelia remarked, 'Are you sure? Because he is quite a good-looking fellow! And one thing more he is looking at us!' 'Oh no! Why?' I spoke. 'It's alright! Don't be nervous I think he will approach you!' said Miss. Ophelia. I stood instinctively as I felt embarrassed and took my excuse from her. I went to the refreshment area for some snack to take my mind off what I recollected from few days back.

As I bought two cotton candies and a pack of popcorn. I was surprised to see him, he faced me as I turned back, and it felt both weird and amazing at the same time. 'Sorry, I didn't mean to block your path!' he said. He moved aside on the right and I responded, 'It's alright!' As I was about to return back inside, he again abruptly stood in front blocking my way. I felt shocked and found it humorous and asked him 'What is that you want to talk about?' He turned red a little and before he could say anything I told him 'Let me' leave these things inside I will be back with you in a bit!' He suddenly asked me as if we were friends 'Promise me, in a bit!' I felt embarrassed I was not about to ghost him or stood him up. And he felt that he could not take that risk. So, I assured him by nodding in agreement.

Rosalie at that time found it quite sweet just like in old romances but it was not something she thought had happened in real life. So, she kept on reading the next night at the same time in the middle of the night in the Scarlet Garden. I returned back to him he was there on the outside of the tent, the host announced that the show was about to begin. He asked me to follow her further back in the area where there was less noise. I could read his energy and it was not a romantic one but a curious one with a mix of some unpleasant sadness. As we stood there in front of the metallic frame of the ride, he continued, 'I apologize for the inconvenience that I brought to you this evening but help! It's my little brother and he is in your school; I think he is not himself! He has turned pale and lifeless after our mother's death. So could you please come visit us?' 'Alright, I will! Don't, worry I will certainly!' I responded to his question.

His unpleasant aura changes into a bright and hopeful one and I thought 'That is what hope give you, more of life and energy to continue life!' But the next instant that transpired, I could not even imagine it. As he asked me to return back to the show together, we walked a step and heard a scream. I instinctively ran to save the girl who stood freezing right at the place we were standing earlier I took her by the arm and pushed her away. The metallic frame of the ride tilted and fell right at the spot. It could have smashed the girl's whole existence if I had not jumped to save her.
