Chapter 30: Act of Desperation

Earlier that day, the group had come to the conclusion that there was no way anyone in the family could get close enough to Aaron to make this whole case go away. After some thought, I realized there was someone who could, and that someone was me.

Knowing Aaron for years, I knew he had a major hero’s complex. He loved thinking that people needed him to fix things for them, and even more than that, he loved the praises that came along with being the hero. If I played into his narcissistic fantasy, there was at least a slim chance I could get close to him.

Tossing the gun on the bed, I grabbed my phone. Scrolling through my contacts, I found Aaron's name. It was an old number from years ago, but by pressing the call button, I decided it was worth a shot. The line rang a few times, stopping as the call connected.

“What the h*ll do you want?” Aaron answered rudely.

Reminding myself that this needed to go well for Kade’s sake, I put on my best damsel in distress act.
