Nanny Quincy whispered a few words to Remi. Her pupils enlarged, and her mouth quivered to answer, only was held back by Nanny Quincy; she smiled and kissed her head and hugged her to thank her for helping her leave the house.
Baldie has told her the center is in the countryside, where she will enjoy the fresh air and greenery. The sound of it seems perfect for her to spend her remaining days; Old Madam Henson is too old. She does not want to trouble her former employer, and being a burden to Clarissa is something she prefers to avoid. The van left the yard area, and Remi waved vigorously to them.
Her heart swells for what Nanny Quincy told her just now. Mona secretly glares at Remi while updating the situation to Felicia in Credence. She wanted Remi to believe she was afraid of her when she would continue pretending until Felicia returned.
In just a few more days, things will be back to normal-Mona smirked.
Strolling throughout the house, Remi went to the Garden that had wilted near her cabin.
One thing settled, Baldie informed her that the three centers would be well-funded for the next six months. They have ensured the expenses will stretch since the plan to garden and raise their food paid off well. Remi came up with the idea for the kids to have something to look forward to after school. They can plant and harvest their garden, collect eggs, and raise a few cows for milk. If the crops are healthy and big, the kids can sell their harvest and get to keep the money to buy their items.
The center was not cutting-edge like any other orphan solely funded by the wealthy. However, the children are happier, and their staffs consist of single mothers that need shelter from an abusive relationship. It's her dream to be able to build a more extensive facility for them. She will find something here eventually; Arlington is a hub for wealth.
Sitting alone in a garden, she heard a footstep approaching before her shoulder was gently tapped by Conrad, that had just arrived from his trip.
"Dad.."
Remi felt the foreign words coming out of her mouth.
"How are you" Trying to engage in a conversation with him seems to be a difficult task. She does feel bad for him, but he made a choice twenty years ago.
He knew Clarissa was his daughter, yet he let her live in an awful environment, making her live in a separate house and allowing Arianna to treat her like a punching bag, not to mention Luke, which seems suspicious. The family manipulates her to the point she is lower than the servants in the house. Remi was surprised Clarissa even managed to go to college, probably the old madam meddling with the decision and forcing Conrad's hand into it.
She might lose her mother at the age of 5, but she remembers every memory of her vividly. She was a beautiful woman, hiding her sadness; the day she sent her to kindergarten was the last day she ever met her again. During the time they were together, Remi felt nothing but only love and precious moment. Clarissa was unfortunate not to feel loved until the day she died.
Baldie will be contacting someone he knew back in computer schools that can dig out more information regarding Clarissa. At the same time, Remi can't help but ask Conrad out of curiosity.
"Do you ever love me, dad?"
"Clarissa...." desperation and guilt are laced with each other.
" I ask because I don't remember anything, and when I get home, I get treated harshed by mom and Arianna; heck, even a servant, dared to raise their voice to me; I wonder, was I a doormat in this house."
"I am not a good father for you; your mom and I were a mistake; it happened during my moment of weakness; she didn't know I was married; the rules of Henson, all heir has to live in the villa; she gave you to us, the rest was all my fault, I let it happen to atone for my sins towards Felicia."
"No, dad, i...Clarissa paid for your sins; you were not implicated by it at all."
"Forgive me.."
"I can't forgive you, the person that was supposed to be long gone."
Remi's words were mistaken for hers before losing her memory. Only Remi understands what she means; Clarissa is gone, and no one in this world who mistreated her can get her forgiveness.
"I know; that is why I went on a trip to retrieve this for you, I am not a good father, but you are still my child," placing a set of keys onto her palm.
Remi stares at the key in front of her; it looks like a house key.
"That is for you; I knew you were unhappy before the accident. I noticed it around six months ago. Perhaps living in this house has taken a toll on you; you can move out to your place; if you want to come and visit me, I will appreciate it."
Conrad got up and left her in the garden to ponder alone.
