Chapter 46: A Heroic deed

Scarlet flew through the air flapping her Nevermore wings, she had lost the scent of Power's blood. But it didn't mean she wouldn't be able to recognize the smell if Power was in the area again. However, that didn't mean she would be turning back to the scene of the fight. Something else had gotten her attention.

There were several buildings that were crumbling and collapsing, some were on fire and falling over. The sound of sirens from both firetrucks and ambulances could be heard, Scarlet flew over towards the area but as she was doing that. The smoke from the fire had blinded her vision, she had flown into a thick black cloud of smoke. Her sense of smell was also blocked off, she couldn't tell if she was going to be flying through and hitting something or if she would be going through it completely, she took a moment to think it over and stopped midair. She used her Nevermore wings to clear the air around her. "Dammit, too much smoke." She grumbled while flapping her wings, the more she cleared the air around her the more it was starting to become more violent. She scoffed and gritted her teeth, she had then used her semblance to stop time. "Okay...I should've probably done that from the start, but then again. Who am I kidding?" She flew out from the thick black cloud of smoke.

Once she had done that, she scanned the area carefully, her eyes fell upon another devil creature. It was trying to blend in and camouflage itself with the surrounding area, but with all the smoke from the burning building, it wasn't doing a good job. Scarlet crossed her arms and rolled her eyes a little. She pondered for a moment, wondering if she should help out or leave the devil creature to the demon hunters. But upon further inspection. Scarlet could see a family of kittens in the war path of the devil and the scorching flames of the fire. "I need to remind myself to have a small heart to heart talk with my wife Kurumi, giving me a soft spot for cute things like kittens." 

The Grimm girl had swooped down towards the kittens and carefully but surely grabbed them up. She then flew back into the air and away from everything happening, she blinked allowing time to resume. Upon doing that, the kittens she had hold of were mewing and meowing. Scarlet glanced down at them before gliding downwards towards another area that was out of range of everything. "You all should be safe here." She knelt down and placed the kittens down, she turned her head and idly watched the chaos pursuit, one of the kittens mewed and looked up at Scarlet. She looked down with her arms now crossed. "Don't give me that look, I only saved you all."

The kitten mewed again as it got on its back legs and put its front paws on Scarlet's left leg, looking up at her meowing. Scarlet kept her gaze on the kitten and sighed, she leaned down and petted the top of its head. "Okay fine, I'll go help out. But I can't take you with me, I already own a cat of my own." She moved her leg away from the kitten as she flew through the air and towards the chaos.

When Scarlet arrived back to the scene of the chaos, she scanned the area carefully as she didn't see the devil anywhere, nor did she see any devil hunters. She crossed her arms and pondered for a moment, she hummed softly as she scanned the area more. "I wonder.." She turned her head towards the firetrucks and ambulances, she descended downwards towards the street. Once she had done that, she stepped in a puddle of blood. "Thought so." She knelt down and ran her finger through the blood, rubbing it between her fingers and then took a sniff and a taste. "Still fresh, which means. Either A, the devil was blended in so well with the surroundings that it managed to strike. Or B, there's more than one devil lurking about."

As the Grimm girl wandered around the now empty street, she was being stalked silently by Power. Of course, Scarlet could smell her, so she wasn't technically out of sight or well in this case smell. When Scarlet turned the corner of the burning building, she had disappeared into the flames. Power stopped as she glanced around, she scratched her head a little and tilted her head. "Where did she? I couldn't have lost her that fast..."

Inside the burning building, Scarlet could tell something was up. The interior of the building wasn't on fire or burning to a crisp, she slowly walked around and grabbed hold of Black Rose, she then slammed the tip of her scythe into the floor and slowly dragged it along the floor. Her eyes scanned around and then down to the floor under her feet, a smirk grew on her face as she saw something that would throw anyone off their search for anyone trapped within the building. "Ara Ara, what do we have here?" What she had seen was the floor was splitting open as blood spewed from it, she snickered a little and knew exactly what was happening. "Ara, so you think you can trick me?" She started running as the tip of the scythe ran along the floor, more and more blood started to bubble up and spew upwards. Scarlet laughed and then jumped out the window before spinning around, when she had done that. Her eyes had met with Powers eyes, both had their eyes locked onto each other.

Power was about to say something, but the building Scarlet had jumped out of, roared in pain. Both girls turned their attention towards the building as it slowly morphed. "I did not expect to see that today."

Scarlet scoffed but smirked. "Well I have news for you sweetheart. I wasn't the one who slaughtered all these people in this part of town." 

Power raised an eyebrow up when Scarlet had called her sweetheart, but she didn't question her on why she said that. She used what blood was around and her own blood to form a blood scythe. The devil finished morphing as the other one Scarlet had seen previously was also there, both her and Power backed up against one another as their backs touched.

"Why don't we set whatever job you were tasked with aside, and kick some demon ass? I've already done one good deed today. So might as well mark off another one." Scarlet spoke and gripped onto her scythe tightly.

Power stayed silent but lightly nodded her head in agreement to what she heard, She had also gripped tightly on her blood scythe as the two eyed both devils. Without saying a word or even bothering to send out a signal of sorts to other devil hunters, both Scarlet and Power rushed head first into the fight against the two devils.

The two of them continued to fight against the two devils throughout the day, the afternoon and then into the night. Which is where they had been slain, Scarlet and Power both panted as they were slouched down against each other, their backs still to one another. But at the end of the day, the two devils were killed, Scarlet had blood all over herself as the same could be said for Power.

"Dammit...that one was tougher than it looked." Scarlet mumbled and swallowed some air to catch her breath. 

Power stayed quiet and didn't say a word or want to complain about the fight, she turned her head to the side to look back at Scarlet. The Grimm girl had her scythe placed down beside her, she didn't pay much attention to where Power was looking at. As the two girls rested, a slow clap could be heard with the sound of slow footsteps. 

"Well done ladies." Makima spoke with a smile and a glint in her eyes. She stopped clapping as she stopped right next to the two. "You two managed to take out two devils on your own, without bothering to call in back up.." Her eyes glanced over towards Scarlet, she had an amused look on her face and one of interest as well. "How about you come work for me hm?"

Power was already working with Makima so she didn't need to say much, but she was curious as to why she suddenly took interest in Scarlet. Scarlet on the other hand glanced at Makima with a confused look, working alongside devil hunters, What was she in Makima's eyes? Fish bait? Chopped liver on a hot plate? "And why should I work along with you?"

Makima's smile turned into a cold smirk. "I need a new doggy to be at my feet. One that I can give orders to." She knelt down and cupped Scarlet's chin with her hand. "And what better pick for a new doggy than you? Bark for your master."

Scarlet scoffed, her stomach churned at the thought. It sickened her at how Makima basically explained how she treats those who work alongside her. "And what if I refuse?"

"Then you'll be marked as the world's most wanted criminal. You'll be hunted by every Devil hunter organization known to mankind." Makima spoke while she still had Scarlet's chin cupped in her hand. "Plus, I'm way stronger than I appear to be. So what will it be? Will you be my new doggy? Or do I have to put a bounty on your head?"

Scarlet slowly stood up as she slapped Makima's hand away from her chin. "So what you're saying is, I won't have any free will to do whatever I want? That's a lame excuse and a terrible offer." She started to walk away from Makima and Power. "I should also let you know as well, I won't show any mercy to those who try to hunt me down. Bounty or not, I'm a murderer by heart. So do whatever, I won't kneel down to you."

"Is that so? Well then.." Makima mumbled and raised her left hand up, her index finger pointed at the back of Scarlet's head. "Bang."
