Praying for a Safe Return

Looking outside of the window, the whole city is covered by a thin layer of snow. There are not many people that were walking outside. The normally bustling King's City is rather empty compared to other seasons. However the city is still more active compared to other cities. As it is the capital, the population of the King's City overwhelmed all the other cities.

Turning her head from the streets to the palace, Loraine saw the humongous building towering over everything else. Every time she saw this building, she wondered how this building was actually standing. The respect towards the artisans guild increased as the beautiful building stood there with pride.

As Loraine turned around she saw the messy bed that she just got out from. Luckily that she was born into a noble family, otherwise she had to make up her bed every morning. That would be a tedious job for someone like her. With those thoughts behind her, Loraine turned around and walked towards the wardrobe. Today, she was going to the church to pray for James safe return.

Changing her cloths to more appropriate clothing, Loraine started to walk towards the door. Just as she was about to exit, she took a coat that was hanging next to the door. Thinking about the cold weather, Loraine could not hold herself from quiver a bit.

As Loraine exited her room and was getting to the door to exit the mansion, she heard a voice call out to her, "Good morning young miss. Are you going to the church again to pray for that young knight?"

Looking back, she saw Jenny, the head maid of the Bloom family. Smiling to her Loraine said, "It is not just a knight Jenny. But yes, I will go to the church to pray." With that she opened up the door.

Just as Loraine was about to exit, Jenny called out again, "Don't you need any escort? Should I call the…" Before Jenny could finish her sentence, she saw that Loraine waved her hand and left the mansion.

Arriving at the church district, Loraine could see tons of people gathering up. These were most likely family members of the people that left to fight in Hermes. Walking towards the church, Loraine heard a hurried voice from her back, "Miss Loraine… Miss Loraine… Wait up! Let's pray together!"

It was Kara who was approaching her. Loraine got to know her as she started to go to the church to pray. Kara is also someone from the nobility class. Because she lived at the other side of the city, the two girls barely met each other when they were young. From what she heard, the betrothed of Kara was also at the front lines fighting the demonic beasts.

As Kara caught up to Loraine, the two girls started to chat and gossip about various subjects. Entering the church, the prayer session was about to start. The priest was getting ready to give a speech and later together with the population, pray for the safety of the soldiers fighting in Hermes.

After roughly 10 minutes, the pries finished his story and prayers. This was the cue for Loraine that she should go to the front to start her individual prayers. As she got to the front, she got to her knees and started to pray, "Dear God! Please protect my James. I pray upon his safe return to me! I hope that you will hear my prayers and accept them!"

As some time passed, Loraine finished her prayers and stood back up and was about to leave the church. Just then she noticed that Kara was still praying and decided to wait a bit for her. Another minute passed as Kara also finished her prayers and walked towards Loraine. The two girls exited the church about to go for a walk.
