Into Retreat

With the orders of Sir Edward, the formation started to improve its momentum. As Sir Edward started to point out the weaknesses within the formation, the cohesion within the soldiers started to be apparent. This was also noticeable in the overall view of the battle. The demonic hybrids also noticed that the formation started to act as one and become tighter. This meant that the demonic beast would have more difficulties with attacking the formation.

As the formation pushed forward, the demonic beasts started to go into a retreat. They knew that with only the two of them, rushing into the formation would mean certain death. Because of the tight formation, even if the hybrids tried to rush forward to bring as many soldiers with them, it would be a difficult task.

It was noticeable that the demonic hybrids were trying to look for ways to get out of the formation that surrounded them as they were about to get cornered. Noticing this hesitant behavior Sir Edward shouted out an order, "The hybrids are about to be cornered, switch formation! Let the spearmen get in front ant lunge your pikes and spears to the hybrids! Make the suffer for all your fallen brothers! Vengeance will be ours!"

With those words, the soldiers who had a pole arm rushed in and lunged their pikes and spears into the hybrids. As there were only two of them, the demonic hybrids were getting poked from all directions. It was clear that most of the weapons lunged at the hybrids were ineffective. Some of the weapons even broke off when they hit the thick hide of the demonic hybrids.

However, there were some spears and pikes hat managed to pierce trough the thick hide. Some even found a weak spot between the hide. Getting pierced by all these weapons from various sides, the demonic beasts were screeching in agony. Anger could be heard in their screech. Yet in the end, they were powerless to resist. With that, both of the demonic hybrids almost fell down at the same moment. The demonic hybrids were finally dealt with.

Happy with this, Sir Edward looked up, trying to read the movements of the demonic beats. However because the low light, he had difficulties with finding most of the demonic beast. Fighting in the dark sure is a problem that the soldiers faced. However they were able to get through this and kill the hybrids.

The soldiers were all on the edge, waiting for the demonic beasts to strike back. As the soldiers waited and waited, nothing seemed to happen. As time passed, the soldiers started to ease up and start to get back to the realization that they had won the fight.

"We did it! We won against the demonic beasts!" a soldier shouted out in happiness. Many cheers followed. Even Sir Edward had to admit that the soldiers did a great job today. His prediction was indeed correct. The demonic beasts started to retreat after the hybrids fell down.

As the cheering rose up, something unexpected happened. It was a major mistake for the soldiers to drop their guards. Before anyone could react or notice, tens of demonic beasts dived down onto the cheering soldiers. As they did not expect any off this, many soldiers fell down in an instant.

Coming back to realization, some soldiers focused themselves onto the demonic beasts, yet before they could react, the demonic beasts already flew back up into the darkness. It was clear that the fight was not over. A long night was waiting for the soldiers.
