Ceremony in the King’s City

"Welcome back brave warriors of Graycastle!" The king stood up as he said that. The moment he stood up, every one of the soldiers went to their knee to show their respect. Most of the audience also bowed.

Ignoring this all, the king continued, "First I am happy to see my son back here alive. Welcome home Gerald." Looking over at Gerald, the king showed a big smile. He did not hide his happiness. As he looked over to the rest of the soldiers, the king said, "I am also equally happy that The Kingdom of Graycastle has produced such wonderful warriors. If what I have heard is correct, you guys were the ones that received the biggest compensation from the church."

Not being able to hold his laughter the king tried to continue what he was saying, "That will teach those weaklings of the other kingdoms. No one can mess with soldiers of Graycastle."

After some praises the king continued with the reward ceremony. Most of the soldiers knew what they would receive as a reward for their service. However some of the soldiers that received some bonuses and showed extra effort were even called forward to the king and personally presented their rewards.

Unfortunately James' achievement was barely short to get called onto the main stage. James felt that he was lucky because of it. Being the center of attention is not something that James likes all too much. Moreover not liking the background he is from, showing himself might pry the eye of the people around him, giving him too much unwanted attention.

Knowing what he would get as a reward, he did not care too much about getting invited to the spotlight. He was still young, so he still had the time to grab this position. Especially if he could improve the relationship with the prince. Ones he got into the core of his knights, he would gain more renown and benefits.

The ceremony took till it was dark. When it became night, the attendees prepared themselves to the banquette. Not being too familiar with this situation, James had not much idea what to do. Luckily he was accompanied by his three friends. At least he had something to do during the banquette. With that, they all entered the ball room.

The room was even bigger than the throne room. It was filled with expensive crystal glasses. Even the tapestry looked fancy. This scene was something that James would never see in his life. He understood the power that the royal family held. His respect to them grew even bigger.

At the corner of the room, there were even a group of musicians playing a soft tune. It sure was enjoyable to hear the song that was playing in the background. As the group entered the room, they were met by a young maid. They were offered a glass of wine. The glass was crystal clear, which made it a rare commodity to have.

Sniffing the wine that was in it, James could taste the sweetness of the wine just by a small sniff. The drink was rich in flavors. Finding such a high quality of the wine is rather rare.

As time went by, more and more nobles were entering the ball room. Before long, James could not stop himself from gazing at the entrance. There was a young maiden he was rather familiar with. He had not seen her in months, yet always dreamed of her. Loraine had finally arrived at the feast.
