An Old Timer's Story
The trio walked down several corridors, heading inward toward the lab's core, where the research was conducted.
Henry was still staggered by what he was seeing before him.
He had expected the old man to be wounded, in some way, as his file had attested as much, with the mention 'Honorably Discharged from active service, following grievous injury.'
But this was much more than he had expected.
When they had been ready to leave, the chief of staff had pushed himself away from his desk with his hands before hovering to the side a bit, where a pair of mechanical legs propped themselves under his hips.
The process was smooth but not painless, judging from the wince on the man's face at the moment of connection. But he hadn't shown more than this.
Jhonny was staring at the legs in awe, wondering what could have happened for a man to lose most of his lower body.
But Henry's mind thought differently.
