CHAPTER 14 - THE ALCHEMISTS

Now the next on the list, THE ALCHEMIST, her voice brought a wave of cheers and applause, although most people fought monsters most of them were just city workers and just stayed indoor so they didn't need the help of blacksmiths.

But the Alchemists, they were needed everywhere, but you have to pay the price unless you meet an alchemist that is helping from their goodwill.

They were known everywhere throughout the city. If you are sick meet an alchemist, if you get hurt and it has a chance of infection meet an alchemist, if you want medicinal herbs for fighting purposes meet an alchemist.

They were useful to the whole city and beyond, most of the items they made were miraculous but were usually sold at a high price.

So the cheers and applause were much louder than the blacksmiths.

Four people got on stage three girl and a boy, the black smithing tools were removed as other people brought in cauldrons and stoves with medicinal herbs.

As the four blacksmith contestants sat to watch the event Daniel went to sit next to Micheal. "Bro you never told me you could blacksmith, since when did you start training?" Daniel asked, he was astonished how Micheal had the time to train his sword skills and then proceed to learn blacksmith.

"To be honest even I don't know, I was repairing something in the open, hammering down on metals and nails then a mysterious old man told me to be his disciple, I was obviously confused, the man wasn't looking at me but I could hear his voice in my head, knowing he had that type of divine power I just agreed and followed him because if he wanted to kidnap me no one would be able to stop him" Michael replied.

Daniel heard what he said and had a thought, "something is coming or happening, why are mysterious entities just appearing."

First it was that mysterious dream he had, second that monster that washed ashore and thr third is the mysterious expert that approached Micheal.

He cleared his thoughts, he wasn't strong enough to think about those matters the strong ones would think about it.

He looked back to the competition going onstage, they were told to make a medicinal paste to quickly heal people's wounds.

They carefully cut thier herbs as they sliced with precision into the cauldron, herb after herb entered the cauldron as they lit up the stove and added a little water in it.

Unlike the blacksmithing competition that only two participant participated, all four of them worked in this round ingnoring everything else as they had set thier eyes at the number one prize.

They each carefully lit their stoves, and as they were working at equal speed, the water started boiling with the medicinal herbs put in earlier.

This emitted the faint smell of the herbs to the surroundings, as the water reached the boiling stage they added some extra herbs, this time they had some characteristics.

It was a blue flower with a carrot body, it was grated slowly into the cauldron as they started to mix their work.

They mixed it to spread the herb effectively around the cauldron, three waited for theirs to solidify as they covered the cauldron while one remained mixing.

After some minutes she stopped and covered the cauldron also waiting for the effect to solidify a little.

She went to sit down and looked around, she found out she was the last to finish but that didn't bother her at all.

She had been trained to work under pressure, this little pressure of finishing last didn't mean anything to her as long as her work was perfect.

Not long after a blue smoke started to come out of the other three cauldrons as they smiled and walked to it, they were almost done with it.

They turned off the stove and removed the cauldron from it, opening it there wasn't water there anymore, all of it had evaporated, what was there was some semi-liquid substance like mud but with a blue color.

They smiled as they saw their results, now it would only depend on the level of the medicinal paste.

A while later a white smoke came out of her own cauldron and she slowly walked to it and then turned the stove off, she removed the cauldron from the top of the stove and pulled the lid out of her cauldron.

Looking inside was a white substance different from the blue the other three participants made.

She celebrated secretly as she saw her work, her skill had broken through. If she were anywhere else she would have been jumping and jubilating but in front of the crowd she had to keep her composure at a hundred percent.

She smiled as she packed the substance into a plate and handed it to the judges of the competition.

"We will now test the four medicinal pastes in the public in front of you all," A man said.

Four soldiers were called onstage to test the efficiency of the product, they put a simple cut on their arms and blood leaked out, they didn't even let out a scream or a small moan, if not the blood in their arms one wouldn't even know they were injured.

They stretched out their arms as the four paste were rubbed equally at the same time.

Immediately the guard whose arm was rubbed with the white medicinal paste started sizzling.

The crowd watched this in confusion, is there something wrong with the page that was making that sound, they could obviously see him grit his teeth as he endured the pain.

Not even three minutes later the sizzling stopped, the man wiped out the rest of the paste in his hand, and lo and behold his hand was healed, there wasn't even a mark left behind everything was just healed.

The crowd was confused, wasn't he the one gritting his teeth in pain, he was already healed from the cut he had made earlier.

The other three guards and participant looked at them in shock, they knew what rank that level of paste was but she was already able to do it with fewer materials.

The blue paste was the weakest out of the rank of medicinal herbs, so although it had healing properties they weren't the best and was mostly used on weak warriors to heal their sounds.
