The Twist of My Life

"So, how did you end up in the Church's underground cell, Altrouge?" Nero asked.

She was curious about the answer.

With Altrouge's strength, it shouldn't be difficult for her to get away with it; no one could hold her unless she was there of her own free will.

After all, Altrouge is a True Ancestor and the oldest one after Crimson Moon. It was impossible for mere nuns to capture her.

"I didn't end up there; I was there because I wanted to be. Fortunately, I met you, sister," Altrouge answered honestly. "I found them boring and wanted to end the farce, but you made me feel like never before."

"You mean you wanted to kill them?" Nero asked curiously, not judging.

After all, compared to strangers, she valued her family more, no matter how messed up their psychology was; she would accept them.

Altrouge nodded.

She didn't refute her big sister's speculation.

"If you found them boring, why did you stay?" Nero asked.

"They have something that can kill our race. I wanted to see how it feels to face death," Altrouge replied indifferently.

"Is there any other purpose that made you go so far like that?" Nero felt something in Altrouge's answer.

It was like her, seeking thrill in life-and-death situations close to suicidal.

Hopefully, she was wrong about that.

She didn't know what feeling she had now.

Was it pride? Sadness? Worry? Or maybe just relief that she found someone as messed up as herself?

"I don't have any purpose in life except to fulfill my duty to my father, sister. Unfortunately, she threw me away worthlessly," Altrouge sighed.

"Recently, I have fought with my own clan. The woman that you spoke of at that time took me captive when I was wounded by my own clan."

"Although I was injured in battle, it doesn't mean I'm weak. I let that woman take me because I don't have a purpose or goal after my father threw me aside."

"My only purpose is to follow my father's will. I was created by her for her grand plan of domination and control."

"After I was deemed worthless by her, there is no purpose for me to live again."

Her father created her for that sole purpose, not for affection or kindness; she only wants her to serve her purpose of dominating the world.

Crimson Moon never instilled any knowledge or free will in them regarding what they should do and what they need to do in the world.

She only created them to obey her orders, probably because she was an anomaly among them and a failed experiment on her part.

She kicked her out from the castle and left her to fend for herself in the human world.

The reason she wanted to be caught by that crazy nun was that she saw that they had a technique that made the undead race weak against their holy attribute, which made it very convenient for her to seek death after her purpose was served.

In the end, they failed, and Nero took her in and adopted her as her sister.

"So, why do you want to follow me if you can go your own?" Nero asked. "I don't think you did it out of gratitude; you are stronger than all of us combined."

"At first, I followed you because your blood is delicious, sister. I wanted to taste it again and make you mine, but I changed my mind after I realized your worth is more than that," Altrouge replied.

"I found a purpose in life with you, sister," Altrouge grinned happily. "I don't know why I found it in you; I want to seek the answer to that question by following you."

It was true, though; among all people, only Nero showed her kindness.

"If you feel that way, then you can tag along until you find your own purpose," Nero nodded calmly, not minding Altrouge's feelings toward her.

Whether she really accepted her feelings or not was another story.

She knew that Altrouge was infatuated with her, but she didn't clearly answer her confusion.

Who knows what this girl with absolute power and little control would do if she became aware of her own feelings.

Despite Altrouge appearing sane, her past stories hinted at a deeper insanity lurking within.

"Thanks, sis," Altrouge, unaware of the complicated thoughts in Nero's mind, was grateful for Nero's acceptance of her willfulness.

She hugged Nero without hesitation and sniffed her fragrance intoxicatingly.

Is this the taste of her big sis?

It smells like roses.

She never tires of this scent and wants to cling to it for the rest of her life.

Nero, feeling Altrouge's clinginess, wanted to push her away, but it was futile.

When she sensed movement from her big sis, Altrouge tightened her grip, fearing her sudden abandonment.

The deep insecurity of being abandoned by her father was deeply engraved in her mind.

She didn't want her big sis to leave.

"Well, you are my sister. And always have been," Nero patted Altrouge's back indulgently, giving up her idea of pushing her away after seeing her persistence.

"If there's anything you want, just ask."

"Same for you, sister. If there's anything that upsets you, you can talk to me," Altrouge reassured, patting her chest.

Nero didn't respond to Altrouge and stared blankly at the wall in front of her.

No one knew what she thought or felt, only the endless boredom that consumed her existence.
