Chapter Thirty-Five

I ignored the sickening feeling in my stomach as I got ready to go to this bon fire party Mitilda is throwing. Jackson took care while getting Seoul ready. He is a smart boy. He can feel the tension in the air but he is putting on a brave face because of us.

"Rin are you about ready?" Jackson calls out from the other room.

"Yeah give me a second." I say taking one final look in the mirror. Jean shorts, a long sleeved shirt and a pair of ankle high boots. All items that are easy to move in while at the same time are cute and fashionable. I pull my hair back into a high pony tail before exiting the bathroom.

I couldn't help but to smile when I seen that Seoul and Jackson are matching. Black V-necks, grey shorts and black Nike shoes. They even slicked their hair back.

"This is too cute." I giggle.

"You look stunning." Jackson says pulling me into a hug.

I pick up Seoul and follow Jackson outside onto the training field. The whole pack is here. Some are making s'mores others are casually talking amongst themselves.

I see Mitilda and Alpha Foster talking to Alpha Green and his pack of goonies from across the field. They seem deep in conversation and didn't seem to notice our arrival.

Keegan quickly spotted us and grabbed a few beers before dragging Elixer over to where we are standing. He offers one to Jackson who happily accepts, popping the lid off and taking a big swig.

"Hey buddy." Keegan said poking at Seoul's side.

"Hey uncle Keegan." He says flashing him a toothy smile.

"He seems to be in a better mood than before." Elixer said.

"I'm not so sure about that. He is kind of like his mama. He puts on a brave face so no one can tell what he is feeling." Jackson said.

"Does he get a weird vibe from those guys too?" Elixer said jerking his head towards the group across the field.

I feel my eyes widen. So, its not just me? I'm not the only person who is concerned? I'm not the only person who feels this way? Does every one feel this way?

"The only thing that initially bothered me was their power. It's not common to see the wolf spirt up front and center while the human side is still in control." Jackson said.

"I didn't get any weird vibes from them until the formal introduction at the mess hall." Elixer said.

"When Alpha Greene saw Rin and Seoul he grinned like he had just won the lottery." Keegan snarled.

"There strings are black." I add.

"Black? " Elixer asks cocking his head to the side.

"Black as in mate less." Keegan explained.

"Everyone of them rejected their mates." I confirm.

"Which makes no since because mates are power." Jackson adds.

"Something isn't right." Elixer said scratching the back of his head.

"Chupacabra." Seoul said.

"Where did you learn about a Chupacabra?" I ask my five year old.

"What's a Chupacabra?" Jackson asks.

"Its a Latin legend that describes it is a large kangaroo/wolf hybrid that sucks the blood of wild animals. Some people have even claimed to have been attacked by one but no one has actually ever seen the creature." I quickly explain.

"Jeongkuk told me about them." He says.

"How does a Chupacabra fit into this situation?" Keegan asks.

"Its like the movie. Mean daddy and a witch are the bad guys but they don't want people to know that they are the bad guys. So, they blamed the Chupacabra for when something bad happened. Eventually the real bad guys get caught." Seoul explained forgetting his English all together.

"What did he say?" Jackson asked.

"Are you trying to tell me that Verner sent obvious bad guys here to distract us?" I ask Seoul. His little head nods up and down. I quickly glance around us. The training field is surrounded by thick mountain forest. We walked down a half mile trail to get here. If someone was going to attack us this would be the perfect place and unbeknownst to Mitilda she played right into their hand. This is check mate.

"Rin what did he say?" Jackson asked again.

"This is checkmate. We all fell right into his trap." I say not hiding my fear.

"If you don't want me to kill all of your alphas you will do exactly as I say!" Alpha Greenes voice boomed.

My heart jumped into my throat when I see Mitilda in Alpha Greenes grasp. He has a fist full of hair holding her head back so you can see the blade at her throat. Alpha Greenes subordinates soon join him front and center dragging, Foster, Dean, Ash Grant and Finn with them.

"First chance that you get take Seoul and run like hell." Jackson growled in my ear.

"Keegan go with them. Protect them." Elixer ordered.

"If you think that I am going to leave you here alone your crazy." Keegan said. His eyes filled with tears.

"You can and you will." He says.

"Every wolf that holds a positon of gamma or higher come and stand in front of your alpha." Alpha Greene orders. No one moved. Everyone is paralyzed with fear.

"Alright have it your way." Alpha Greene says shrugging. He jerks his head down to the soldier holding Finn hostage. Before I could blink Finn is laying face down in the dirt and the soldier is proudly holding up his heart. I choke back a sob. They killed my brother.

"Lets try this again. Every wolf that hold a positon of gamma or higher come and stand in front of your alpha." He orders.

"Some of us don't have any pack members here with us." Ash said.

"Shut up!" the soldier said driving his elbow into the top of his head.

After a few seconds everyone started slowly moving to where there alphas are even if they didn't hold a ranked position. Jackson and Elixer mindlessly follow suit.

"Rin we have got to go." Keegan whispered pulling on my arm. I don't want to go. I don't want to leave him here. What if something happens and he is injured or even worse killed? What if I never see him again?

"Rin we have to go now!" Keegan urges jerking on my arm.

Despite my reservations I turn my back on the man that I love and run.

Running has become an all to familar thing almost as if it were second nature. This time is different. There is no mental neglect. There is no one holding me hostage in a cell. There is no one firing off rounds at me. This time I am running from a monster who has yet to show its ugly head.

Daniel Verner always gets what he wants. It doesn't matter how he obtains it or who is hurt in the process. This time I refuse to fall victim to his evil scemes. I wont let my son fall victim to his wicked ways. I can't let anymore of the people that I love become a casuality of this war.

This time I will fight back.
