Irrational worries

'This has to be the very first time when I move back home all on my own,' Fay thought as she passed through several checkpoints established within Makary's compound. 

Thanks to her relatively exotic looks for the place, she was one of the very few people who didn't need to go through an extensive process of identification at each of the checkpoints. 

Save for the few other people of extreme importance, it was a process that applied to absolutely everyone… with the exception of the logistical staff, who would get verified at the start of their work shift and get locked within the cargo-transit part of the pass all the way until their eight hours of work would come to an end. 

In practice, the very existence of those checkpoints was pretty questionable, given how only those whom Peter allowed could perceive the gate to begin with. Yet, according to Makary-provided military maxim, redundancy was the key to security.
