Hiro decided not to go home, despite numerous calls from his sister. Hiro and Loki used the elevator to go down the roof and reach the parking lot. The moon was full, and there were no clouds.
When they left the building, they went to a nearby park, and Loki offered Hiro to Althoughstay a night in his place. Not to mention that Hiro needed a change of clothes because they were stained by blood. They sat at the fountain's edge, and Loki gave Hiro an energy drink.
"Thanks," Hiro said with a small smile.
Loki nodded and pulled out his phone, texting his brother, Darvin, about the situation. Darvin was not pleased to allow a stranger into their house, but Loki insisted, and Darvin gave up.
"Hiro, do you want me to tell you a secret?" Loki asked.
His tone sounded curious as he looked over to Hiro, a slight smirk on his lips, and Hiro nodded.
"Yeah? What is it?"
"You are not weak," Loki smiled smugly. "You just don't know what you are capable of yet!"
"Oh, come on!" Hiro laughed nervously and rubbed his arm. "I can barely make illusions."
Lok laughed and put his arms behind his head. He looked at the dark sky above them; the stars were shining bright. "Wrong," Loki exclaimed. "You have the power to control light."
He looked back to Hiro, who looked confused and then looked away.
"That's ridiculous…." Hiro shook his head. "How can you know what my powers are in the first place?"
"Well," Loki wasn't sure if he should tell him the truth or make some excuse. Would Hiro even believe if Loki told him he was transmigrated into this world? "due to my abilities, I do have some knowledge of the possible future." Loki didn't lie. However, he did not tell the whole truth as well.
"I-..." Hiro hesitated. He was still skeptical, after all. "Can you tell me about those powers I'm supposed to have?"
Loki smirked and said. "Oh, that's the fun part!"
Hiro looked at him, confused, as Loki started explaining the powers that Hiro has. He explained Hiro's abilities to move at the speed of light, to be immune to injuries by turning his body into light, shoot powerful lasers, and even bent light at will.
"You see, you create illusions by bending the light," Loki began speaking again. "These illusions are different from those that alter a human's brainwaves. And you can't make the illusion seen by a single person because everyone sees the illusion."
"That makes sense. I guess," Hiro shrugged and thought for a moment before speaking. "So, how can I learn to control the other skills?"
"It doesn't take much training, really," Loki grinned. "You need to know what you're capable of after all. After learning to transform your body into light, everything else will be as natural as breathing."
"Let's give it a try," Hiro muttered. He tried imagining his body turning into the light. However, he had no idea how to accomplish this. So, he concentrated on his imagination. However, nothing happened. Suddenly, he heard Loki's voice.
"Hey... If I do something bad," Loki asked. "Will you forgive me?"
"Huh? Hiro blinked and then looked at Loki. "Bad? What do you mean?"
Suddenly, Loki pulled out his pocket knife and stabbed Hiro in the stomach.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" Hiro shouted. However, he realized he didn't feel any pain. He looked down and saw something that made his jaw drop. The part that was supposed to be bleeding was releasing a golden glow! "What the..."
"Would you look at that," Loki laughed at Hiro's expression, "You succeeded!"
Hiro stared at his stomach wide-eyed, looking at the glow fading. After the light was gone, there was no wound or even a scar. He asked Loki to hand over a knife and stabbed his palm a few times, seeing the same golden glow instead of a wound.
After a few minutes of shock, he looked at Loki and asked, "Is this real? Please tell me this is not an illusion." Hiro teared up because he started to believe this was just a cruel prank. However, Loki shook his head.
"This is not a prank, dude." Loki smiled. "You are probably the most powerful espers in the world right now."
In Loki's mind, Hiro was indeed one of the most powerful espers. Although Hiro would have died by jumping off the building, if he had the necessary knowledge of him having the power to turn himself into the light, he would have survived. This power required Hiro's belief, which Hiro did not have until now. The same works with many powers in this world. If you have no idea how your abilities work, you will never activate them. Due to this, there were many powerful abilities whose users were deemed powerless.
"Try shooting a laser beam at that tree." Loki pointed his finger toward a big oak tree not too far away. The moon's light hit that tree, making its leaves glow and casting a shadow on the ground.
"Alright." Hiro took a deep breath and pointed his finger toward the tree. His aim was pretty accurate, though he shot a little bit to the right. A tiny piece of his hair flew across his eyes and caused him to blink furiously.
Hiro turned to Loki and frowned. "Did I miss?"
"Nope! You did it!" Loki chuckled. "However, it did no damage."
"Oh..." Hiro sighed heavily and scratched his chin. He looked to the tree again.
"Maybe try again?" Loki asked curiously. "But this time, don't do it the same way you create illusions. Focus hard. Imagine the damage it is supposed to do."
"Uh, yeah. Why not?" Hiro agreed and got ready to fire again. As soon as he fired a laser beam, a small hole appeared on the tree trunk, causing Hiro to blink in surprise. "Holy crap!"
Loki stood up and checked behind the three. Even the ground had a hole where the laser landed.
"Wow!" Loki exclaimed. "Quick question, why have you never tried imagining it doing damage?" Loki questioned because if that were him, he would have tried imagining his illusions doing actual damage. So it was weird for him that Hiro never tried it.
"Well, because I was always told my skill was to create illusions simply," Hiro shrugged, not really thinking about it. "And, uh, it felt childish trying to experiment with something that was deemed useless."
"Dude," Loki stood speechless, as Hiro's words made him feel immature.
