Chapter 1: Arrival
A girl was lying on the ground, sweat dripping from her forehead. The sun was burning hot, with every windblow a big heatwave flew through the air. The girl opened her eyes everywhere she looked, miles and miles of sand was the only thing she saw. "Where am I? Wasn't I just fighting gre...?'' She got up and started to walk. This is not good. I have heard of places like this. The land will go on and on forever. I need to get back!
The girl was exhausted, dehydrated, her mouth and eyes were dry. Her legs were starting to get heavy, every time she took a step she would sink into the sand almost up to her knee. Her vision was getting blurry, and she fell into the sand. Am I dying? NO! I Can't, I need to summon some water magic, but my gate is still recovering from the battle.
Something that looked like a sandstorm was approaching the girl. She looked at the sandstorm, she could see a figure inside of the sandstorm. "Is that a person?" she questioned and passed out.
A stream of water like a waterfall landed on the girl's face. "ahahhhh!! That's SOOO cold!!" A cloaked person was splashing water on the girl's face. The person was wearing what looked like a ski glasses and his body was fully wrapped in clothes. The clothes are made of cotton and cloth; the person was wearing a belt with a sword and rope on the other side. The girl was completely soaked, she looked like a disappointed cat that didn't want to bathe. The boy said. "--XXX----XX" The girl looked confused. Shit I don't know this language? The boy also looked confused but then he understood. "I am sorry I suppose you do not speak Kyoei?" The boy said in the language of Deity. The girl shook her head. "I don't." I come from the Western continent and there we speak Deity.
Deity is the most well-known language in the world so it is logical that he can speak it as well. "Well, what I said was. You will dry up in no time so don't look disappointed." He said in a playful tone. I just don't like being wet, but it was really nice, and he just saved my life so I should thank him.
The girl got on her knees. "Thank you so much for saving my life I will do anything you ask me to." The boy let out a faint smile. "I am just happy I was able to help. My name is Isaiah what is your name?"
"Luna, I don't know my family name." Luna said with a conflicted face.
"Luna, what are you doing here? We are in the heart of the wastelands do you know how dangerous it is out here." So, I was right, I am in Wasteland. That is really far from home. "Luna!" Isaiah said. His expression was that of someone who was shocked and terrified. "Your eye... It is bleeding! Come we need to go to my village."
My eye is bleeding? Luna held her right hand in her vision of her right eye, but she couldn't see her hand. I didn't even notice but I lost my vision in my right eye. Isaiah got another pair of ski glasses and tossed them to Luna. "Put that on." Luna got the glasses and put them on, she could see everything more clearly. "It is inflicted with a spell that enhances your vision and it helps protect your eyes from the sand." What Luna saw was kind of the same thing you see with night vision. As Isaiah said that he got a small flute and blew on it, but there was no sound. The flute worked the same way as a dog flute. "Is it working?" Luna asked. Isaiah let out a small, exciting smile. "Oh, it is working perfectly." he said. In the distance you could see a sandstorm coming at them. Isaiah stood perfectly still focusing on the sandstorm. "Don't we need to move or something?" Luna asked. But Isaiah didn't respond, his gaze was only focused on the sandstorm who was only meters away from them. In mire seconds the sandstorm had made its way from miles away to only a few meters. Luna got nervous "this guy is crazy I need to get out of here!"
Then when she was about to jump away from the sandstorm, she got grabbed by Isaiah who pulled her along into the sandstorm. When Luna opened her eye, she saw Isaiah holding his lasso the same way you hold a gear with a horse. She could see the outlines of two horns where the ropes were wrapped around. The only thing around her that she could see was sand like she was inside of the sandstorm. "Hold on to me tightly, you don't want to fall off."
"Fall of? From what?" Luna questioned. "From the Sand snake of course!" Sand snake? Isaiah Laughed while Luna was questioning what he said.
They were riding an enormous snake that lives in the sand. Their scales are harder than diamonds, and on their heads, they had two big horns. The snake was about 400 meters high and infinite miles long. Their heads need to be kept under the sand because that is the way they breath just like a fish in water. The waste landers use these creatures for traveling around. "Okey now jump!" Isaiah said.
"Huh?"
He grabbed Luna, and they jumped off the sand snake.
"ahhhhh!!" Luna screamed. And they landed on the ground. The sand snake went off on his own. "We're here." Isaiah said.
The walls looked like that they were made from ribs from some kind of big animal about the same size as the sand snakes. The rib came out of the sand facing upwards to the blue sky. They were walking through the village; the houses were chunks of rock carved out to look like a home. The houses didn't have doors but were closed off by pieces of cloth. In the middle of the village there was an oasis with beautiful blue water and at the end of the village were two what looked like two horns coming out of the ground and in the middle of that there was a little shrine.
They arrived at a house. "Are you guys religious around here?" Luna asked. Religious are a big relevant in this world, there is a lot of discrimination because of it and some people are not allowed in some places because of their beliefs. there are three mean religious kami the belief of one and true god, Yomi is the belief of the absence of a god and last Maho is the belief that for every magic element there is a god, and every god has his own authority over that specific element. "Yes, most of the people here belief in Maho." Isaiah answered. "I am Kami, so can I go in here? She asked. "of course!" inside the house was an infirmary bed and a table. Luna was lying on an infirmary bed. "Get some sleep I will catch up with you in the morning" Isaiah said.
The next morning. An old man with a long goatee was healing Luna's eye. Isaiah asked. "Were you able to restore her vision?" The old man said. "Unfortunately, we as healers aren't able to restore visions of eyes one's there lost. We also can't heal lost limbs but if you have your part of the arm that is cut off, we are able to reattach a lost limb and make it functional again. But rehabilitation will be needed for it to make it one hundred percent functional again. The eye was infected, so I used detoxification magic, and it is perfectly healed."
They were walking outside through soft sand, luna looked exhausted from the heat. "Isaiah do you not die from the heat with those cloths?" Luna asked. "These clothes are inflicted with a spell that keeps it cool." I would also like to have that spell on my clothes. Right now, I am dying! Again. "
Luna you can use magic, right?" Isaiah asked. Luna answered. "Yeah, of course everyone can use it once they learned it." "Okey, then why didn't you use water magic to give yourself water?"
Should I tell him? He doesn't look like a bad guy; he saved my life, and I also need to get back to my friends, I don't fully trust him. But I need to get home some way. "It is a long story. I got in a fight against the demon of greed that is how I lost my eye and got teleported here." I think I got teleported here, but I am not sure there was a big flash of light right before everything went black. "because of the fight all of my mana was drained." Luna said. "couldn't you borrow mana from mana spirits?" Isaiah asked. "I have a curse that doesn't let me make contracts with spirits." Luna said. Mana spirits are spirits that provide mana for the owner, it can make it stronger or make sure that the owner can't run out of mana. "Oh, I am sorry to hear that. You also don't seem to have a wand; did you lose that during your battle?" Isaiah asked. Luna looked confused. "No, I never used a wand for magic in combat." Isaiah was stunted by Luna's respond. "You can use magic without a wand or without the help from a spirit or without a mana crystal! I am so jealous!" he said. "I have never seen someone who can do that please teach me!" Special? Back at Yastu's mansion everyone except Itsuki used magic without a wand. "I am sure if you try your best, you can do it." Luna said. "So will you teach me!" He questioned eagerly. Luna looked like she really didn't want to do it and she let out a soft sign. "Okey, then but I am a really strict teacher." she said while winking.
They arrive at the shrine at the end of the village. The shrine resembled that of a Japanese Torii. "Isaiah, you told me that going out in the desert alone is really dangerous but why were you there all alone?" Luna asked. "I was just hunting for sand rabbits. That is the only real food source we have here." Isaiah answered Luna's question. "It is not because they are the only animals that live here but because all of the other animals got eaten by the Sand Snakes. The rabbits make their holes so deep that even the snakes can't reach them.
Luna walked over to the shrine, admiring its beauty, and turned her gaze towards the desert in the distance. This place is incredible, but also scary. A gentle breeze of air went through her hair. Looking at the beautiful blue sky, she thought.
Will I ever make it back home?
