Chapter 2: What Lurks in the Alley 2

"It has to be the eyes!"

Frustration filled his entirety as he thought of a way to reach the eyes. But no matter how he thinks of a way to reach it, he cannot think of any way possible.

Unfortunately, an enemy doesn't wait for you to plan out everything. The monster dashed towards his direction while giggling continuously.

Surprisingly enough, the monster was quick in its foot and it immediately arrived to where Chris is located. It raised its muscular hands and swung it downwards.

"Fuck!" Yelled Chris as he jumped sloppily to his side

BOOOOOOM!

The ground rumbled and dust exploded which hindered Chris's sight. It was a spectacle to behold if only he wasn't the target of the monster.

"HEHEHEHEHEHE!"

His makeshift house already destroyed and even the soup he plans to eat for tomorrow morning has already merged with the ground.

Chris's heart ached at the sight. It was his humble abode for the past 4 years and it took him forever to be able to get to where he is.

He's been surviving on his own for countless of years and now, the fruit of his hardship is now destroyed.

'I can fix it whenever I want. For now, I have to survive!' He tightened his grip to the pipe as he once again dodged to the side.

Another explosion reverberated and other Dregrats are already running away from the vicinity.

Rubbles scattered away the crater which was created from the other smash. The giggles of the monster continued which added pressure to Chris.

He also received some damages due to the debris being flung towards his way. His clothes tattered and his left cheek is bleeding.

"I have to find another way!"

He ran deeper towards the alley and noticed that the previous rotting bodies have now vanished.

"That's why it's full of vigor!"

Giggles once again filled his ears and the loud thudding sound of its steps disturbed the surroundings.

Suddenly, he felt his body being slammed towards the side and his rib cage piercing out of of his body.

It was the monster who suddenly caught up to him and swung its arm to stop Chris from running.

His eyes filled with indignation as he looked at the monster in front of him. He was powerless. He cannot do anything aside from running away from it.

Tears flooded down his eyes.

'It's all for naught, huh?'

His survival in the Dregs, his hardships and with everything he did just to stay alive. He felt his heart clench in despair.

The monster already clawing him and about to put him inside its mouth.

That is when a small figure leaped towards the huge monster. Its ears as pointy as ever and its tail majestically sways casually.

"Meow!"

Its voice as simple as ever but the monster it is stomping over shivered, frozen in sight. It already let go of its prey as pain and agony filled its single eye.

Chris thudded slightly to the ground and left him unconscious on what is transpiring at the moment.

The black cat leaped once again to another place and just casually vanished from the scene.

The monster then exploded into blood fountain and soaked Chris which is directly below it.

Pieces of its flesh scattered in the alley but no matter how gorey this scene is, it made the area serenely quiet.

Hours later, three men in black attire arrived in the alley while looking at the remains of the once humongous monster.

"This must be the Bungisngis." Alexis muttered as he shattered a vial containing some blue liquid.

White smoke filled the area but the three just casually strolled still.

"Retrieve every pieces. The mirror will last for an hour maximum." Alexis order his two subordinates and the two just proceeded with his command.

Alexis then looked over the place as he tried to investigate what transpired in this dark alley.

'What could've killed such menace?'

-------

Gasping for breath, Chris looked left and right, assessing the place and his condition. Fortunately, he's still in the familiar region of the Dregs.

Feeling no discomfort, Chris casually stood up and looked at the piled up corpse beside him.

'They might've mistaken me for a dead kid.'

He cannot blame anyone though, covered in already dried up blood, everyone would think that he's a freshly mangled corpse.

One basic courtesy in the Dregs would be the impeccable discipline in cleaning up corpses. He's even more lucky that the one who dragged him here is not some necrophiliac bastard.

"What do I do now..." Chris felt a pang in his chest as he remembered his not so delapidated but patched up turf.

After all, it took him ages in making it decent and survivable.

Chris clenched his first in rage and unconsciously slammed his fist into a wall, only to be surprised with a loud explosion of debris.

The entire wall soon collapsed and fine dust covered the area. Bewildered, Chris took a step backwards, shock evident in his face.

One step became twice, thrice and until he rushed away from that alley.

'What the fuck was that!?'

He looked at his hands with concern only to find that it was not damaged nor his bones even breaking.

"Right, it's the same with that thing! It was super fast and strong that it makes the ground collapse." Reminiscing the might of the monster he encountered, Chris had an inkling on why he suddenly became monstrously strong.

It was then that a giggle escaped from him which soon turned into a sonorous laughter.

"This is it! This is what I perfectly need to survive in this hell. I can become a porter or a mercenary!"

Joyously celebrating his newly acquired power, Chris felt that there's more to it that what meets the eye.

It was his gut feeling telling him so! He's particularly sure that enhanced physical ability is not just the gift he received. It's not a random guess but his gut makes him certain that such is the case.

"That time, I wasn't able to feel it's presence not until it giggled. This might be a possible ability that it had before."

Elation ran through his entirely. Giggles left his crookedly cresent lips while he walks.

Aimlessly wandering around, he soon arrived in the infamous Dregrats Pub. It's the go to place for mercenaries and travelers from other regions.

The acclaimed mercenaries of course are just some low lives from the Dregs who wish to earn more money and disregarding the threats that might one day claim their life.

The door opened and the small hanging bell rang for a second to notify the owner of the pub that someone entered.

Chris' eyes wandered as he looked at the interior and the mercenaries who are happily eating and drinking the special Murky Beer.

The owner of the pub greeted him and soon minded his own business behind the bar counter.

Chris stood parallel to the mission board, eyes glued to a specially enlarged poster containing an illustration of a very familiar figure.

"Bungisngis..."
