Can't Be A Coincidence

I glared at Damian, unsure of what to say or how to react to the message that I had just received.

"Jerome is dead?!" I repeated as though I had not heard it correctly the first time. Slowly, with a hint of sadness in his eyes, Damian nodded and I felt my knees lose strength for a brief moment. Staggering forward, I fell into Damian's strong arms before my tears began to spill from my eyes.

"How? Why? What happened?" I asked as I fought back my tears. How could any of this be happening? Jerome might have betrayed me, but he was still family. How on earth was I supposed to face John and tell him that his last child had been killed in my custody? And what about his children and wife? This was ridiculous, and overwhelming in every way possible.
